I am obsesssed with saving money to the point that I try not to spend any at all in the UK.
I check the cost of everything and take so long making up my mind if I want something or not that in the end I decide I dont need the item after all and the money stays in the bank.
I always get this feeling that everything is overpriced and not worth the asking price.
Its got so bad that I now fly to the USA to buy clothes and shoes and stuff.
Is there a way I can relax and enjoy spending ..?? |

You can relax and enjoy spending by having a specific amount set aside (every week or month) that is your "spending money"
Write down all the things you want to save money for- paying for your house, retirement, emergency money, car, ect. Once you pay out to yourself to cover all those, find out how much all your bills are. Once those are covered as well, you can set aside a certain amount as your "blowing it" money. I used to have the same problem but discovered that once I knew everything else I wanted to take care of was taken care of, there was no reason not to have fun with the money left over. |

I see nothing wrong with this obsession.
I am addicted to saving, investing and making more. I rather spend money on things that will make me more money and life is damn good because of it.
Take advantage of your situation by saving even more money by purchasing stocks and such that can make you more $$.
When I was in the UK I found great prices on things so your flying to the USA is only for you enjoyment. You obviously need to look harder for those bargains!! I sure found them.
By checking prices and looking for better deals I save myself even more. Some people think I am nuts with it but then they have no clue to how much I have saved. Being financially independent is a grand thing!!! |

I'll tell you a story. In the 6th grade we had a game. you got payed with play money for every paper turned in , and every good behavior, and or extra credit thing you did. The object was to learn to save. once a week on Friday we got paid, and had an auction of trinkets that where donated by kids. There was always something I wanted. but I wanted to have the most money and save for something better. Well guess what happened. At the end of the 6th grade school year it was summer vacation and I was left holding a bunch of useless play money and no trinkets to show for my hard work. Very disappointing don't you say.
Lesson is, be frugal , but spend your damn money before your dead.So quit spending money on air fare and maybe buy on line, it's much cheaper, and you can still get what you want.Go out and enjoy a nice dinner and spend your money on life experiences. |

No, I'm afraid there's no hope for you. Kidding! Lemme tell ya about a woman named Ann Richards. She worked for the IRS. Never made a big salary. Lived in the same single apartment for longer than most people live. Walked everywhere to avoid paying carfare. She lived to be over 100. She left an estate worth over 100 million. True story. An extreme case to be sure. But some valuable lessons for us all. Frugality is a great quality to have. Being a cheap-ola is not. You do good things for yourself because you want to feel good. Something's wrong if you can't enjoy something good. Try some therapy. Sounds like your attitude just needs a little tweak. No biggie. |
