(no private pension). does anyone know if we will be entitled to any other benefits. i have worked all my life so have not been a burden to the state in any way. i will appreciate any information that you can give me. |

Make an appointment with your local Citizens Advice Bureau, I found their advice to be spot on and they literally found loads that i am entitled to.
Don`t think like our parents did ie "it`s charity" we have both worked all our lives and are only receiving what we are entitled to.
Do it today. Good luck |

The minimum income guarantee for pensioners (after their mortage interest or rent is paid is currently £119.05 for a sinlge pensioner or £181.70 for a couple. If you pension income falls below that you can apply for a top up but money in savings over £3,000 will take way some of the benefits (not all of it as credits for savings are given) An exact calculation can be done on line at http://www.thepensionservice.gov.uk/pensioncredit/calculator/calculate.asp |

I have only the state pension - but go onto their website and you should get pension credit (I do) this will mean help with rent and council tax - free prescriptions etc |

You can visit your local Department of Works and Pensions office, pick up appropriate leaflets and have a chat with the staff, or you can ask to speak to a financial adviser at the Citizens Advice Bureau. There are many allowances which pensioners often fail to pick up - mainly because they do not know about them. So go ahead and claim that to which you might be entitled.
PS As you have access to the Internet, try the following website: <www.thepensionservice.gov.uk> Lots of information there. |

Hi there you will only find out what your entitlements to supplementary benefits might be once you have retired. Then and only then can you be assessed for supplementary benefits and this will be based on your joint incomes i.e. state pension etc.
It strikes me that if you don't own your own home you are better off then those who do. An unfair system for those of us who have struggled and worked hard to buy our own homes but who have not managed to save for a pension.
What I would say is when you are retired make sure you get in touch with the pension agency and ask if you are entitled don't leave it.
My Mother when my father died only had her state pension to live on and she was really struggling until I persuaded her that she was entitled to extra help......and this was back dated I have to add. |

depending on if you have any other income and how much you state pension is you may be entitled to Pension Credit.
It's not like tax credits. It's a means tested benefit and is basically income support for being over age 60. However because it *is* essentially income support you can benefit from simply receiving a small amount (ie you get other things free)
You can visit www.thepensionservice.gov.uk for more information and I always advise people that it doesn't hurt to claim |

If you or your wife have any disability, it is worth applying for disability benefit eg Attendance Allowance, other than that, you are only entitled to the state pension |

Unfortunately, no. Not that i know of.
State pension is the benefits.
It is expected that you have your own house and will be able to live off the value of your property. |
