Overstayer with fake bank account?
There is this overstayer who used to live at my address and managed to open a bank account with fake documents bearing a fake name.Is it my concern to report to the bank and what will be done. Will they just close the account or involve the police.

I would report them, although the police take very little notice these days unless its a huge amount. More likely to be dealt with by the banks own fraud account.

Don't leave it though, as it could put a black mark against your address, meaning you find it hard to get credit. If you have reported it, you can get it sort with the credit reference agencies.

Um... that's identity theft. You should report it to the bank immediately. Failure to do so will mean that you could be considered as an accomplice when... ***WHEN*** not if he gets busted.

Why are you worried tell the bank and hope they go to the police!

Sounds like you know a little more about this than you are saying. This is not the same as identity theft. Identity theft is when you obtain and use a Real person or company's identity. This is classified as fraud. There was a fake name and fake documents used to open the account. If the bank was using systems which all banks can have access too, this should not have happened. But in our hectic, busy world, I can see where it could. If you know something, you should make the bank aware of it. But if you don't, and if checks starts coming in on this account and there is no money, the checks will be returned to the person or company which took the check in the beginning. Check Processing is so quick in this day and age, it is very hard to get away with this type of transaction. When the bank realizes what is happening, they will close the account and return any checks presented. Therefore the taker of the original checks is held responsible. Always remember-- KNOW WHO YOU TAKE A CHECK FROM.

i think they will contact the police
you shold not have to worry though
they will only ask you a few questions
and arrest him dont let him get away
with it be honest

You could alert the bank to the possiblility and they can research it from there. Banks have security and can catch up with the fake documents soon enough. But it can't hurt to alert them to the person.

yes you should report it as it is identity theft, and yes the bank will involve the police as it is fraud. The account will be frozen.you have a moral duty to report this, some poor person out there has had their id stolen, whom i sure will be gratefull to you for making them aware of this fact.

It should be everyone's concern. It will cost you and me money for every day that he continues. The loss is just passed on down. There is the concern that a person would want to come back and get even with you and that keeps a lot of people from getting involved. You can ask to remain anonymous by the bank and the police, in fact most police have anonymous tip lines. You are not reporting a crime against you so there should be no need for your involvement after they start the investigation.

den invent
probably both

They will probably freeze the account.
It depends what they used it for; just normal use or to launder money etc...

If it was opened with a fake passport it will be very difficult to trace the person because they don't have any real information on them, so they won't bother.
