Owed money by former employer?
Who do you contact when a former employer refuses to pay you?

I do have proof...isn't there some sort of state agency or something? Anyone know what it's called

Virtually all states have a Labor Relations (or some similar title) office that are there to help you with that problem. Look under your state government office listings either online or in a phone book.

You contact the better business bureau in your area, and also after that you need to hire a lawyer. You can take another route and contact your local news station and have them embarrass him publicly until he gives you your money. I did this in a less public manor and got my money back. I bribed my old employer and he paid up. My friend also worked for him, and she threatened to take him to court, and she never got paid. Bribe him but don't blackmail him. There is a slight difference. Good luck, I hope you get your money

Send the State employment agency a letter in complete detail what transpired and why they owe you money. Be truthful and do not concoct any story's send a copy to that employer as well. The state agency will get in touch with you and you may be paid before they do. When the co gets the letter they will probably send the money immediately with an apology. That is if you are right.

meep!

if you have proof that they owe you money, then you should call yourself a lawyer. With no proof though, you might as well forget about that money!

If it is a large amount, settle it in court, if it is like 10$ just let it go.

Depends on what type of employment you were engaged in. Non legal professions have no choice but to utilize violence, as the courts are unwilling to hear their claims. It is why violence will always surround illicit activities and products.
