My car loan is 1/4 the size of my credit card balance. If I was to pay extra I could have the car loan paid of in about 14 months. If I paid that same extra towards the credit card it would still take years to pay off. My standard cc payment is more than the minium payment they say to make.

Pay off the higher interest rater credit card first.
1-Paying down the 8% is like making 8% on your money. Paying down the 5% is like making 5% on your money. That makes it an easy choice, right?
2-The credit card company will find some lame excuse to jack your rate up to 18 or 26% or something else stupidly high. If you've paid it down, they can screw you less.
Then, figure out how got into the situation and don't do it again. Keep your car for 10 years or more. The joy of no car loan and not caring where you park it is great. Don't buy stuff you don't *need*. You are now a slave to the credit card companies and it feels bad. |

I had this problem too and asked my family and friends for their advice...every single one told me to pay down the higher interest debt first. It'll be more money wasted in the end if you don't. |

ur credit slave cards in truth are NOT fixed rates and will be changed at banks choice desire to make more money.
see the universal default clause that allows them to raise your rate to 35% when they want.
since u have so much credit slave debt u need to get 2 pt/tm jobs and pay them off .
visit dave ramsey.com cause u have some bad hard lessons coming ur way. sorry seen the movie. |

Always pay the higher interest first! The only exception is if one is tax deductible (ie, home equity) and then you need to calculate the taxable equivalent rate. Definitely pay down the credit card first. |

You should pay off the credit card first IF and only IF. . . . . you will be able to not charge it up again. Then you'll be in worse shape than you are now. NEVER pay the minimum---cut back where you can and put that towards the debt. When the card is paid off, then put everything you would have paid to the credit card to the car, and before you know it you'll be debt free. It's a great feeling, trust me. |

Well, normally, I would recommend that you pay your 8% first since it is a higher rate. However, if paying off your car loan faster would give you a sense of accomplishment then pay off your car first. Then use your freed up car loan money to payoff your credit card. Just don't go out and refinance another car right away. |
