If someone says "A penny for your thoughts", and you have to put your "two cents in" where does the extra penny go?

The extra penny is interest.

You could also look at it as payment. "A penny saved is a penny earned." Of the two cents, only a penny is needed for the thought. So, both participants make money.

my penny jar..filled with pennies..than after its filled i will change them for bills, so I can cash for pennies n change..sometimes i put 25 cents in..so not always gonna be a penny..

If someone says "A penny for your thoughts" they are only getting a pennies worth, which, these days isn't a heck of a lot. :-)

If they give you a penny for your thoughts and you put your two cents in then you are only down one penny. I guess they can just keep it, or they can give their two cents to somebody else.

There is no extra penny. The way it turns out is that you're actually giving them a penny and your thoughts, not getting a penny and giving your thought.

"Penny for your thoughts" was a song written by Peter Frampton. The extra penny goes to cover the people who don't have any money to pay for their thought.
