Question about getting my SSN card... please help!
I don't have one, though I know my SSN by heart. I'm seventeen-years-old. Am I able to get a job without my card? Where would I be able to get one? Would I need my parents permission to get it? Thanks in advance.

You would have to go to your local Social Security Office. you need a copy of your birth certificate with you when you go. It's not that hard to get. Just fill out some forms and wait to speak with a representative so that they can verify your birth certificate. It takes about 4 to 6 weeks for SS to mail you a new one.

you can request a duplicate from the Social Security Adminstration - not sure if you parents have to sign the form or not. You can call SSA (they will be under the government section of your local phone book) and ask who needs to sign to get a duplicate card.
Some places of employment require that you show them your SS card, others don't. My daughter just got her first job and did not have to show her card (she is 17 years old).
Good luck!

go to a social security office, if you NEED one.. alot of places dont require yuor actually card..just number, but if you NEED one take your birth certificate and drivers lisence to get one... when i got mine i didnt have my birthcertificate either so i had to go get one of those too FUN FUN. good luck with your job :)

most jobs like 2 forms of identification, which would be a drivers license, and your SS card....but i'm sure that varies by state.

you don't need your parents permission to get it....but again, that varies by state

You can request a replacement at a local Social Security office. Their website has office locations, plus the things you'll need to bring with you to request a replacement card.

With all the restrictions, you probably will need one to get a job.

New Homeland Security regulations and other INS regulations require that an employer see two forms of identification when hiring for a job. If they don't, they are in volation of the law - and it's more strictly enforced since 9/11/01. You can secure a duplicate card from the Social Security office; your parent may have to sign the request if you are a minor. Also, there is a limit to the number of times you can request a replacement during your lifetime.

Call your Social Security office and speak with one of their representatives. It's free, and you'll get the correct information.

Yes ask your parents where it is, maybe they have it, they have to unless they lost it but either way you wont be able to get one since you are under age. You can still get a job without the card since you say you know the number, they will run it and verify its you but they will still want to have a copy of your Social Security card for their records,
good luck

yes you would.but some places will accept your birth certificate if you tell them you don't have a card

Contact the Social Security Administration and ask them to issue you a new card. You can do this online at www.ssa.gov. Here is the link for requesting a replacement card:

http://ssa-custhelp.ssa.gov/cgi-bin/ssa.cfg/php/enduser/std_adp.php?p_faqid=251

You don't need a card to apply; you just need the number. After you are offered a job, the human resources department will ask to see your Social Security card for purposes of completing the W9 form. They'll need to make a copy of it.

I just hired someone for our company and we are required to obtain a copy of your SSN. most places required a copy of your SSN card. you need to go an INS office, they will help. you may need your birth certificate and picture ID and maybe your parents need to go with you.

call your local social security administration and ask them what they can do to help you, most likely you will need some type of ID, like your birth certificate and they would have you fill out an application for a new one if you lost yours and you will get it in the mail after 2 weeks. Hope this helps.

Ask your parents where your card is.
