Coins are made so cheaply nowadays that anybody who can make decent reproductions literally has his own mint.
Initial setup may be a bit of a large investment... setting up decent looking dies, finding the proper composition to use (coins must be the proper size AND weight to work in machines, and some are also tested for magnetic qualities if they are rich enough in nickel) and procuring raw metal... but if you make enough coins, you soon clear a LARGE margin.
One thing to remember is that, in the modern times, counterfeiting money is an industrial venture, not a small-time operation. Even funny banknotes can be expensive to make, bacause of all the "traps" set in the real ones to prevent fools with a xerox to start their own mint. Paper quality and watermarking are the oldest and most traditional ones, but inserting wires, printing truly characters that will be too small for most copiers, and inserting reflective bands that will turn black under a scanning device are all known and used... Not an easy job at all, making good counterfeit money... |

just by the point that you would think that we would think that you are thinking of counterfeiting is strange. But what ever if you are going to counterfeit change you are an idiot as it would take for ever to get any real money out of it. Can it be done of course as it was made by man as paper money. The only thing that coins have difference in to stop counterfeits is there density and different material metals they use.
They mix coppers and irons and so forth. And the head where the president is weighs a specific weight to balance the coin. This is why when you flip a coin for heads or tails you should always go for heads as the head of the coin of the president weighs a slight more giving you the advantage.

Never heard of such a thing -- I think someone was pulling your leg.
Counterfeiters don't mint coins. The purpose of counterfeiting is to get large amounts of goods or money (as change) for the counterfeit currency. |

That's funny. Never heard of that before with quarters.
I don't like when you go to the store and use 100 dollar bills they always have to inspect it. And some places won't even accept a 100 bill anymore. |

I have never had this happen to me nor anyone I know of. But your story is a little suspicious. I mean not about you, but the fact that someone else must have used that same quarter to purchase something and then that same quarter was given to you some how. I agree that anyone who counterfeits any sort of money should be put into prison or prosecuted because this isnt right at all. |
