Recommend a good current account for under 18s?
I don't want a savings account becuase there is never any worthwhile amount of money in my account.

But i would really like a good interest rate, and a debit card to use in shops.

What do you recommend?
Additional Details
In the UK high street banks please

I opened a route 15 account with the Royal Bank Of Scotland when I was 14 and 4 years on I have not had one single problem with them. You get money off books for latest concerts, holiday's and cinema tickets and stuff like that. I haven't had a debit card though, but the interest rate is quite good too!

I'm not sure where you are... but I use a credit union. Banks tend to charge too many fees. Credit unions don't charge as many (if any fees). The only thing I have to do is keep $25.00 in a savings account and I get a free checking account.

There's no check writing fee, minimum balance requirement (other than the $25.00 in savings), no statement fee, no atm fee (as long as I use a designated atm) and no limit on atm use. I also get a free debit card (aka check card).

Interest rates in banks and credit unions aren't that great. You can get better interest if you open up a money market account... but you have to have a certain amount of money in the account and maintain a certain balance. It could vary with banks and CU's but usually it's $1000, $5000, or $10,000.

I would go with a CU, and make sure you don't use credit cards or get into debt... interest rates and finance fees are ridiculous. If you can't buy it with cash then don't buy it. If you want to buy something... save up for it. Goodluck.

Speak to your Bank or Building Society Adviser. They will recommend the best current account that suits you and your circumstances.

a students savings account... if you want to write checks then a checking account... look for something in the free banking area.. i am from canada so i can't specify which banks offer it in the usa.. but i have seen some commercials

but if you want a good interest rate you will only get that with a savings account really.

Abbey National do a good current account they may give you an absolute pittance in interest but i've always banked with them and have found them reliable and easy to deal with

Don't worry so much about the interest rate. Regardless of the rate you won't be making very much. Example: $5000 cash locked in a 6-month CD will yield about $90 interest if the rate is 3.75%. Conclusion: You won't be making hardly anything in interest so don't worry about the rate. The important thing is to learn how to save money. First learn that.

the royal bank of scotland, then go for the route 15 account its really good and you get a solo card to use in shops, a brill interest rate and the staff are really helpful with uk call centres. hope it goes well

Two facilities contradict. You must have to open a s ac.
Debit cards are issued for ca&s.These two are not interest earning accounts. These two are faciliated with frequent withdrawals instead of keeping them fixed.

Madness
You can try Nationwide they have from what I can remember a good young persons account, or try Natwest

Halifax, Barclays or Natwest..........

They are the best ones(IN MY OPINION).

If you don't like the ones I have said(you must be mad!), you can go to HSBC or even some other ones...........

I hope this helps you my friend!
