Scottish notes can be used throughout the UK, as are northern Irish notes, so yes he can use them in agreement with the reatiler. The term legal tender is a misnomer as this applies only to the bank of england, transactions with other notes require the consent of all aprties involved |

Yes you can use scottish money in england because it is legal tender but you will probably get a few shopkeepers who will try to refuse it. You could always exchange your money at the bank if you have too many problems. |

Legally Scottish money is not legal tender throughout the UK. A shop can refuse to take it and some do just that. However many will accept it and if you have a real problem get it changed in a bank into Bank of England issue notes/coins |

Scottish bank notes are not legal tender in England but are negotiable.
Legal tender means that money proffered to expunge a debt must be accepted by the creditor.
However, Bank of England notes and coins are not always legal tender in England and Wales ,even, in certain circumstances.
Until the stagflation of the early `70s, BoE notes were not legal tender on buses and if accepted , the conductor was not obliged to give change.
Coins are legal tender only up to certain amounts. Try paying for your garage bills in all coins !
In recent times , cabbies could refuse to accept £50 notes. |

Scottish Money is NOT actually legal tender in England, however, some shops will take it.
I would suggest changing it at your local bank.
