Should I be angry? what should i do! HELP!!?
Ok, so before my grandmother passed away she left each one of us children 100,000.00 Dollars for college. Its in a trust fund.

Fall 2008 My parents got the money out and 'paid' for tuition, books, and meals.

THen my father insisted that the money be used to get me a laptop. The bank agreed that they could do this and gave the money to my father, only requesting that he send them a recipt of payment for the laptop.

3 months went by and evertime I'd ask my father where the laptop was he would tell me "its comming".

Now I am starting a new semester and I went to pay my tuition through my Trust fund and the manager called me. She said that the money she gave my father for the laptop was never shown through a recipt.

WHen i approached my parents the said "oh, we had to spend the money on a mortgage paymet"

I got really mad at my mom and started crying becuase now I am stressed about money.

My mom is now all insulted and says that I think everything is about me.

I am just mad because I wanted to study abroad, which is covered under the trust fund, but I cant becuase they never paid for the 2,000.00 laptop.

I dont have the kind of money and my mom says she cant pay for it.

I dont know what to do!! should i be angry what should i do???HELP

The first thing I would do would be to get a full accounting of the trust fund and money spent so far. I hate to say it but more money may be missing. Then, since it seems you are 18 because you are going to college notifiy the trust that money has been misappropriated. If you have to wait until you are 21 to get the rest of the money for college I would get a job and wait.

Sounds like your parents feel like they can pass on their genes as well as their fiscal irresponsibility to you.

Good luck....

Call the bank. As trustees they're responsible for getting the money back from your parents. Also, ask the bank if they can pay the money directly to the college in the future, instead of running it through your parents.
If the bank won't help, you may want to consider small claims court.
Good Luck!

You have every right to be angry - your parents stole money that belongs to you. Instruct the bank to not give your parents access to the money. You would be legally justified in involving the police, but that wouldn't do much for family relations.

That money was for your college fund NOT FOR THEM TO PAY FOR THE HOUSE. im sorry but if they needed help with payments on the house they could of told you what they were doing with YOUR money. yes you should be mad very madd and yes its about you because thats what your gram left the money for. how are you sappose to continue your education with out money. i would totally confront your parents and tell them you want the money back no matter what ITS YOURS!

Sounds like a plan
Yes be angry, that makes me angry just by reading it. I don't know what grounds you have you stand on but i would speak to some other family members to sort this, it's a problem because you live with your parents but what they done is very very selfish. I can relate to it myself, and that's why i left home. Your parents are just grown up children just like every other adult is, just because they say something doesn't mean it's correct. Speak to a trusted family member and explain the story and they can offer you advise. Advise over here will be tricky because you're toying with the idea of going against your parents who are putting a roof above your head, which apparently you're paying for!

This is not good. its your money. Legally all i can suggest is that you approach a solicitor. your parents are out of order and abusing what is rightfully yours. good luck

Elizabeth
Well, I would feel angry, especially because I couldn't continue my education because I didn't have money. But you may want to check the other side of the story. Your parents maybe needed the payment for the house. Although I think that was too much for a computer but maybe he wanted to buy you the best. I guess is just crossing feelings. But think about them too.

They have plenty of money in reserve, so why are they putting their wants before your needs? It sounds like your parents do not understand the value of having your personal computer.

Well depending how old are you, you can be in charge of the money and look for a good financial adviser to help you administrate the money and if you are smart you can invest it and make more money with that and pay for your college and stuff.

You are right being mad because they should be honest and tell you the true from the beginning, but at the end they are your parents and you should not be mad with them forever.

the d
if that money is yours YOU BET i would be ticked.

find out who is in control of the trust.

dj b
call a lawyer because that money was left to you and they are not allowed to spend one dime of it without your consent. seriously i would get a lawyer or at least speak with legal aid to find out your rights.

the lawyer will get your money for you and then you don't have to worry about your parents spending it. yes i would be mad.

Xpress yourself.
Being Angry Is not the answer. Let's come down and think.

Do what you can to deal with it in a mature manor.

Call the bank, Tell them what happened. Tell them that you don't want your parents mistakes holding you back. Stay calm, anger will only fog your mind and slow you down.
In my opinion, yes, your parents were in the wrong but, is anger going to help solve it? I think not.

I'm sure this is hard for you. I would recommend taking them to court. But those are your parents, who wants to do that?
They have no right to be insulted.
You are going to make something of yourself and something negative got in the way, something that was a sure thing turned around on you. This unexpected event got in your way-your parents taking the money- That would make anyone angry. Brainstorm some effective ways of working things out with your parents and the bank. That was your money, is your money. Keep that in mind while keeping your cool.

Your dad owes you a laptop. Like I said before, call the bank and tell them exactly what happened... And you are in no way being selfish. Your parents are.
We can dwell on thoughts that bring us down.

But they only bring us down.

I know that money was meant to be for a laptop, but what would you prefer?

(1) a laptop and homelessness?
(2) somewhere to live?

Sometimes, when you're an adult, you need to make those kinds of decisions. Now, I don't know your parents, but I'm sure they love you very much and feel terrible about what they did. However, when you have a mortgage, that mortgage needs to be paid. You can't skip a few payments, or the bank can start proceedings to take your house and sell it on you to recover their money. They sell it cheap to get rid of it fast, so it's not like the bank will sell a house for what it's worth. That means they could sell it, and your parents would be left with nothing. It's that serious. I know. I have a mortgage. If your parents were skint one month and desperate to pay that mortgage, then I can understand why they did it. If it was MY parents, I would just give them the money. The family home is more important than a laptop or where you study. A degree is a degree. Seriously, if your parents are struggling to pay a mortgage repayment, I don't think studying overseas is really an option for you. You should study at a good college near where you live to keep your expenses down.

Stop being angry. That doesn't help anyone. Ask your bank how to resolve the issue. Your parents might be required to repay the money or buy you a laptop. There must be a way to resolve this issue, but being angry about it won't help.

Best wishes
