I am a 27 year old male. I have been working full time for a nonprofit making $33k a year. I am also half way to getting my bachelors. During the past couple of years I have been going part time to school which has worked out ok. I am getting to the point now where it is becoming more and more difficult to get classes that work with my schedule. So I am considering quitting my job at the end of this year so I can give my all to finishing school. Financially, I have $30k in savings, my rent and billls are very low. . I also make a few hundred bucks a month selling on ebay on the side which pays my bills and allows me to not use any of my savings, I don't pay rent cause I do snow removal and grass cutting for my building. My job would not allow me to go to part time. I am a very smart person but in the past have made some bad choices when it comes to school work etc. I am going for a degree in finance & accounting. What should I do? |

Is your job in your field of study, if not I would consider leaving your job and getting a part-time until you finish school. If your job is in your field of study I would keep it. |

You should man, in today's society, it's really difficult to make a decent living even with a master's degree. You'll struggle for a long time if you don't have a bechelor's degree. |

i think you should find a part time job at a pizza hut delivering pizza or some place like that, tips are great and flexible work hours, im currently in college as well for my bachelors in graphic design and i have a part time job making pizza for papa johns, very flexible to my class hours |

sounds like you should be okay - Is 30k enough for tuition and living expenses until you finish? are you planning on going year-round or taking the summer off? if off - you could probably find full time job of some type in summer to help strectch things out |

I was in the same situation a few years ago. While I was in school I regret quitting my job, because it was hard not having the $$. But right now, I am glad I did it. You are in a much better situation than I was, I had to pay rent and utilities. Just do it and graduate, there is always accounting jobs available. |

go for the degree. If you are financially able to pay your bills without working until you finish your degree and know that when you finally do finish with school will be able to get another job right away paying what you need to make a decent living than that should be your answer. What about the place that you currently work at they know your going to school right so ask them how they would feel about you leaving make it no secret to them and maybe when you finish school you could go back to where you work now and have a better position and better pay.
All in all school can be stressful and when your done it will be a weight off your shoulders so try to get it over with asap.

going part time can seem to take forever. If you really think you can sacrifice and dedicate the rest of the time you will need to finish school full time then it could work out.
go for it! Keep networking while you are finishing school so that way finding a job when you are done will be a little bit easier. |

I think if you can finish school in a year or so then go for it full time. You won't get too far in debt (or eat your savings too badly). If it'll take longer than that you should keep plugging away part time.
Can you cut back to part time at your job so you can fit the courses you need? That'd be another safe compromise. Presumably you won't be working at the same job after graduation so it doesn't matter if it takes you out of the promotion loop at work. |
