actually, having kids would be better for your retirement in most cases. look at how many old people llive with kids. if kids get a good job, they can help Mom and Dad.
children are an investment of time & money - sometimes your kids help you when you're old & sometimes they don't. just depends on the kids. |

It all depends on how old you are and what your income is. Children are a hassle financially, and it takes a toll if they don't move out after you retire. But honestly, this would vary so differently for each individual. |

I certainly hope not.
While it is definitely expensive to raise and educate children, the decision of whether or not to have children should not be made out of fear of not being able to retire "comfortably."
Many, many people have managed to bring children into warm loving supportive homes that were rich in relationships but relatively cash poor. While it is a good question to ask ("can we afford to raise this child and give them a decent home?") before deciding to have children, I wouldn't base that decision on how wealthy you expect to be or not to be in retirement. Too many other things (politically, economically, etc.) can happen between your childbearing years and retirement. You should have children if you want children and can give them a loving home and the necessities of life. If you don't want children, or don't think you can provide for them decently, then don't do it (now) until you feel more inclined. |
