Should your work if your husband make 500 000 thousand dollar a year?
i'm just curios because when i'm gonna have a baby who is going to stay with him

You hire a nanny to stay with the baby. But for your own peace of mind, you should never stop working in whatever field it is that you love. Your husband makes a lot of money now, but what if he were to die suddenly? Or what if he were to decide that he doesn't want a wife and baby? There are a million circumstances that could cause you to be single again in the future, without his money to support you. If you haven't worked in years, and if you never completed a college degree, finding a job that will support you and your child (or children) is going to be difficult. If you continue to work, even on a part-time basis, you will have your own income, you'll keep your job skills current, and you'll have contacts in the business world in case you ever need more than a part-time job.

It's nothing more than self-protection, really.

If you want to work because you feel more fulfilled then do it, but if you want to work just to make more money then why bother when your husband already makes so much? Unless he doesn't share it with you. Get a job if you really want to and then when you have a baby you can quit or go on maternity leave or hire a nanny since your husband makes so much. It's your choice.

Yes you should. Don't fall into a trap of not having your own money etc.

Well, It's always nice to make your own money. But when you have a baby you can always quit working then.

that's a personal decision. most women do work regardless of there husbands income.

yup

That´s a really great question, and a lot of it doesn´t really involve dollar amounts, but one way you can think about it that might help is as follows:

(1) Look at how much you could potentially earn if you were to get a job
(2) Look at how much it would cost for daycare/paying someone to take care of the child.

If there´s not a huge difference, you might be best served to do the stay at home thing. Your child will likely thank you for it later, and a lot of mothers view their relationships with their children as priceless. It is possible to balance the both, so it really depends.

If my wife made 500k I wouldn't be working for sure.

CJ
It depends. You have not provided enough information for anyone to answer this question. How much money do you personally have in savings, retirement, and equity in your home(s). Can you and your husband live the rest of your lives if your husband stops making $500k a year. Are you personally (not your husband) wealthy enough to never need to work. If the answer is no. Then you need to have a plan. An undergraduate education is important along with part time work until your children are older. Then you can return to work full time. Independence is important. I know many unhappily married women who can't leave their husbands because they are not able to take care of themselves, have no credit, can't get a decent paying job, etc. Also, relationships don't work well when one spouse makes a great deal more than the other. Equal contributions makes for a happy marriage.

Richie Rich
This is a personal choice and not one for Yahoo Answers. Just because your income is not needed, does not mean you shouldn't work. It means you have a choice to work or not.

The tax issue is non existent. There are legal methods of lowering ones tax bill.

If you like staying home, stay home. If you want to work, put the kid in day care and go to work.

you are going to stay home with your baby and raise him
when he goes to school full time you should get a little part time job for your sanity

JJ
You probably don't have to. I'd volunteer. Sitting at home gets very dull and there are plenty of noble causes that could use a helping hand. Most of us don't have very much time, but if you don't have to work you could devote 20 hrs or more a week to an animal shelter or children's home.

flipho_3000
No, for tax purposes. The more you make, the more the IRS takes.
Is he sick or something? Have someone you trust to look after him. Male preferred, not gay!

no way girl.

he = paid - you and baby = Paid !!!

With that kind of money I'd say only work if you don't have anything better to do (like watch a child.) Otherwise I guess you could work to pay for the Nanny to raise your child for you.
