Ok in Aug 2006 I cancelled two gym memberships I was paying for. One for me and one for my bf. 32$ bi-weekly stopped coming out of my account. I never realized that 15$ bi-weekly was still coming out.
They never cancelled my bf's account and have been charged me for the last two years!!
We canceled because we moved to a different city, never used the gym since then and I only realized this because we just signed up at the same gym in our new city.
Now why would we do that if I thought I was still being billed for a gym membership over a hour away.
It adds up to about 780$!!! What are the chances you think they will give me my money back? Once I cancel isn't is illegal to withdrawal money still! Im so mad and worried they will just say you didn't cancel when I did, we gave notice and everything. I just don't have any paper copies of that stuff, I don't know if I ever did.

Im thinking of contacting the head office and having them pull our files to see what is in there and that there is cancellation notice....Im not taking no for an answer.... :( |

you defintiely have to go to the head office or whatever number there is to call. same thing happened to me at my tanning salon but luckily i still had my paper proof.
my gym is 50 a mth per person!
always check ur bank account girl! i am crazy bout that, especially when i know im cancelling something :)
call those suckers and show them u havent been in and u moved and pitch a fit! |

It looks like your going to have to eat that. Documentation is everything, without it its you words against theirs. Now you could always try to talk to a higher source of the gym and show them proof that you moved and they might be able to reimburse you some of the money maybe you'll get lucky and they might give it all back.Higher authorities of companies always want to satisfy their customers and they should understand where your coming from.Just give it a try what else can you loose? |

I am having a similar problem exept I got pregnent. Talk to the company and see what they can do for you even if they offer you "free time"(time which you have already paid for. Start the conversation off with why would I cancel one and not the other when both were coming out of my account and then the one tha kept coming out was not even for me and I was paying for it, and then why would I sign up again with with you all again in another area (explain your move) because the CUSTOMER IS ALWAYS RIGHT!!!and if all that does not work dump the company and join another. But also check your contract because everything that you sign up with has a cancellation fee and it may have been cheaper to keep the membership than to cancel it. I hopethat this helps. |

First try and get the gym to reimburse you the money. They HAVE to have a record somewhere saying you canceled your membership.
If that doesn't work, then go to your bank. A lot of times you can dispute charges to your account that you believe were fraudulent.
There is always the possibility of small claims court as well, but that can sometimes make everything more expensive. |

Someone didn't do their job properly, don't let it go.
Get on their case and make sure you get your money back.
If you don't have receipts, the gym you're signed up with now, must have a record of when you signed up with them.
Find that information and persist with it.
A similar thing happened to my husband who travels internationally a lot for work.
He got charged for a hotel stay in one country when he was staying somewhere else at the time.
He got his money back - as he should have.
If people just sit back and pay a bit of money because it's easier than a fight, then think about how much money businesses can make by relying on the chances of whether someone is going to argue or not.
In your case, thats over $700. If out of 100 people who have the same problem - only 10 people get their money back, then that business has just made $63,000 for nothing.

go get your bank records for that time frame.figure out the date and time you cancelled. small claims court fees are about $30.00. I feel it would be worth a shot.If nothing else it's the principal of the matter.also go to your bank and file fraud charges (I think that's what they call it) then they will also try to help you and it will be on record. you will also have to call in a police report.(you shoudn't have to go down or have a police officer come to your house)I got some of my money back from aol where they did the same thing to me.good luck. |
