MICHAEL P | The Cost of Living ...... !? |
Is causing so much stress and depression in people, isn't it? I mean, even with two incomes per household, it is even harder to make ends meet. Like to hear your honest answers here, how are you coping, it is making anyone ill, is it making life unbearable? And where does everyone see this going? |

Yes the cost of living is skyrocketing and wages are flat.
Some of the ways we are coping is to dial down our lifestyles (but we started doing it 5 years ago, so easier now).
We eat out less. Are paying off our credit cards and never using them. Turned our heat down and wear more/less clothes use blankets fans. I make more meals from scratch using whole foods and less processed crap.
From only going to the hair stylist every 6-9 months to only buying things on sale and driving much less.
This is the way things were during the 80s and I don't see things getting better for a decade at least.
Regretfully I believe that we haven't even started to see how bad it truly is going to get as our government is hell bent on taxing us and our employers more.
Welcome to the new world. |

I think a large part of the problem is that people's expectations of their standard of living is too high.
If western society hadn't led us to expect that we should all have 400" TV with hundreds of satellite channels etc, it wouldn't be so bad.
I don't know where you're from... here in the UK there's a big fuss at the moment about Polish plumbers coming over here and undercutting English workers. The reason they can do this is because they're prepared to accept a lower standard of living.
I sincerely beg forgiveness for the people who are genuinely on the poverty line and can make no cuts in their standard of living, for whom the above argument is not intended. |

Speaking honestly I'm doing very well indeed, but it's down to being a frugal person who knows the difference between needs and wants. I have no credit cards (or debts) all my extra income goes into my savings account and over the years I've built up rather a significant amount of savings, which will more than likely be my pension fund in future. I don't think of it as a "need" to save, I enjoy doing so and love watching my money grow knowing that I have no worries.
Thank you, and good luck :) |

I agree with you. In a way some of us are spoiled when everything was cheaper during the yester-year. We work hard and think we deserve to enjoy life on the weekends and on our vacation time by going to Europe or some far away places to get away from it all. Now, it's next to impossible because the US $ is shrinking and the gasoline prices are skyrocketed!
Just the other day talking to some colleagues at work, we felt stressed because we work so hard for all those years, we looked into our 401Ks, they are shrunken too! Sigh! |

Well if you have a computer and Internet to complain on times can't be that hard every ones feeling the credit crunch right now moneys tight but it will all balance out remember there's people out there starving in some country's. |

The market will adjust. This happens occasionally. The real problem for individuals is that most of us live like there's no tomorrow and we don't save or live within our means; therefore two incomes are needed and there's no room for high gas and food prices. |

We have been using this site. http://www.daddymorebucks.com
It has a lot of great ways to save money. We felt the cost of living a lot. I suppose we still are. But some of the suggestions from this guy (with 5 kids) were so good that we now save about $550 a month.
Hope it helps. |

That's what people get for voting for GWB. Sure we all have to suffer now, but I take pleasure in the suffering of those who voted for GWB. I hear them whine about the costs of gas and eggs and milk and I have to stifle my laughter. They got their just desserts. |
