I don't work in a bank, but I like putting my finger in a lot of pies.
A quick squint at your profile told me you are in the UK. UK financial Institutions require one document with your name and Photograph (Photo ID), and another containing your address.
Photo ID includes:
Passport
Driving Licence
Student Matriculation Card
Identity Card
Armed Forces ID
Some employers cards are also accepted
Address
Driving Liscence (Unless already used as above)
Utility bill (Gas, Electricity, Water or phone, not Mobile)
Other Bank Statement
Employer Wage Slip
It does not have to be your name, just your surname (When I was younger and living with my mum, (Long time ago) they accepted my mums Council tax bill as I had the same surname).

Its either a passport or a driving licence. There are a few other items as well but these are the main two that you would posses. |

2 bits of ID at branch ie one name and one address ID, 3 bits of ID if opening an account at Head Office, ie one name one address and any name/address ID.
ID can be a driving licence for name or address, utility bill or phone bill not mobile phone bill for address only, DWP correspondence for name or address, HM customs correspondence for name or address |

If you don't have a driver's license, you could still get a picture ID from the MVA or DMV (whatever it's called in your state). |

If you don't have a drivers license either, try bribery. You need to use cream cakes though, bankers don't get very excited by cash. |

I DO work in a bank but my banks requirements may be different to yours! You seem to be getting answers from people from several different countries, and different banks ID requirements may not be the same. Many of the other suggestions MAY be suitable, but the only way to be sure you don't make a wasted trip to the bank is to phone them beforehand and find out exactly what ID that particular bank will accept. I'd be surprised if they don't insist on some form of photo ID though, even if it's not a passport. |

Most banks require you at least 1 form of primary identification... meaning a state id, drivers license, birth cerificate, social security card... And 2 forms of secondary identification... gun license, school id, hunting license, broker's license... You can also use a primary id as a secondary identiification as well...
I mean it only takes 2 seconds and like $10.00 to get a state id and it will allow you to open a bank account... |
