I am moving to Florida and I am going to open a bank account through the universities credit union. And I would like to keep my personal money seperate from my student loan which has been given to me in the form of a check.
Is it possible to have one bank with two checking accounts? The other option was to just have two banks, and keep the money seperate that way.

YES!! That's a great idea. You can have one for making payments, and the other to purchase items. Not only is it easy to manage your account but you are most likely to avoid those nasty overdraft fees. Great Idea, and yes banks allow you to do that...they always want to bring the business home. Stick with one bank, that way if you want to transfer money you won't be charged from one account to another within the same bank. =) |

Yes you can. I have two checking and two savings with Wells Fargo Bank and I use them for different reasons.It is actually a great way to keep track of your money. Just remember that they can both be subject to monthly fees and so forth ( if that is the kind of account you have). |

i believe you would need two different account names unless you would create one as a checking and another as saving which is not much different since you can extract money with an ATM from both |

Yes. you can have two checking accounts with the same bank. A lot of people do as they like to keep the household funds separate from other funds. Easier to keep track of your two accounts that way too. Tell the bank why you need a separate account and they may be able to offer you one that can earn some interest on your money too. |

Yes, I have my business acct. (which I don't have a business, but it's a free acct. and the bank offered to me) and my regular acct and the one my husband and I both use. That's three at the same bank, Washington Mutual.
I also have two checking in another bank, and a savings in yet another bank.
Got to just love those statements each month |

yea that is possible. i have 2 checking accounts at my bank. another option is to have a savings account for your student loan and just transfer it to your checking when you need to write a check. good luck in school! |
