Citizen DeCat | (UK) Where is the safest place to deposit any savings I have? |
Let's face it, the banking system is up s**t creek without a paddle, heading for the Victoria Falls.
Word on the street is that HBOS is on that very canoe at this moment in time.
Whate is the safest institution in which to deposit what meagre savings I have?
Surely, now is the time to panic and cause a run on the banking system, before it's too late. |

I've got all my loose cash tied up in large stocks of dynamite, matches and gin old boy all stored safely together under Rotter manor. Its the only sensible thing to do in these tough economic times. Tip top. |

DearCat, now's the time to retire, cash out the savings, and buy that yacht we've been eyeing.
As long as we don't move to the Gulf of Mexico.
There's been a yacht of hurricanes lately. |

Just stash it under the mattress like the first lady said, Sir, I know you may have to sleep in the confines of your ceiling space and need a ladder to get in and out of bed, but when it turns out worthless we can have never ending games of Monopoly with it like old times eh? |

don`t panic my dear`s (put the lot on clippety clop 3.30 kempton) only messing first :you need a bank or b/s member of (fsa) a member of the banking code....second :do you need regular access to your savings? if so you'll not get much less interest than a fixed term rate say i.e 1 year fixed bond... thirdly an last bit of info don't`t bother with stocks &shares better off going back to kempton at 3.30 lol...best advice 6 month 12 month 36 month take your pick look around for best fixed rate bonds happy hunting!!! an no i`m not martin Lewis lolololol |

The best thing to open is an ISA, these allow you, currently, to deposit up to £3600 per tax year and you don't pay tax on them. The Government has guaranteed your savings over up to £36000 so it's worth opening an ISA, even if it's for only part of your savings. Shop around the banks and building society's for the best interest rate you can get on the ISA. |

Buy shares in gold, it rarely goes down and most of the time goes up. Gold is a very stable resource even during hyperinflation. |

No it isn`t it`s only the money grabbing USA institutes that are in real trouble, our systems can withstand a downturn. |
