baby jesus | UK> Debt help!! I'm on the brink of falling into a big big hole!!? |
I earn £950 per month after tax (14k p.a.). My rent and basic expenses leave me with less than £300 to survive (food, clothes, going out)!! I am not in much debt (£1000 all together, here and there) but i can see that its not getting any better: I'm simply not earning enough!! I am already living in the sh1ttiest, cheapest place available and i dont know where else to cut down! I have no family and i live alone.
Every month my debt gets bigger! I dont know where to cut down!! Are people meant to live with this kind of money?? How do people manage??
Is there any kind of support for someone like me?? My rent is 300 plus 60 council tax, 35 bills and I just got a ridiculous water bill for 500 quid!?? ITS INSANE!!?!!!!?? 14K is not a bad wage!! Its well over the minimum wage!! Why am i living at the brink of poverty?? I can understand people that go on the dole! Why bother??
My question is, is there any support i can get from the government towoards my bills at all? Additional Details The last thing i need is a loan!! I've been depressed and i've stopped eating. I come home from work and i just stare at the walls! Its the 18th today and I have £1.20 to my name!! |

If its any consolation I experienced a worse situation and was getting by without any help by getting bargain food.
I saw a great article on saving money by getting bargains at the supermarket counter. It might help. Basically the article explained that if u visit the supermarket before closing time stuff that is close to the sell by or best before date is marked down by 50 -80%. There were some wonderful examples like huge pizzas for 20p!! |

dont panic! ive been in your situation and worse! please call the consumer credit councilling service. this is FREE they will talk to you and help you arrange with your creditors to pay only what you can afford until you are on a better financial footing. they can often get the interest you have been paying reduced and frozen.
please call them tommorow they are open from 10 till 10. you will honestly feel MUCH better when you have spoken to them. dont hold anything back they can only help if you tell them the full picture. they really helped me. look in the yellow pages. good luck hunxxx |

Don't even think about a loan. Try the Citizen's Advice Bureau, they might be able to help with any benefits you may be eligible for. That water bill sounds high, query it. |

Basically sorry mate but you can't afford to go out until you pay off your debt then you won't worry. Go to asda and buy smartprice range food. Can you get working tax credit? Are you getting your single person reduction on your council tax? I would suggest shopping round for electricty and gas which is cheaper and maybe water can you get a different water company? Or maybe be put on a water meter? I think the bill is wrong and question it. If necessary tell them you will pay it in instalements. The other thing is to get a second job. Sorry but that is the way it is in Britain today. **** isn;t it? |

i was in a similar situation and had to take all the overtime i could get. also have you looked at housesharing i moved into a room in a shared house with two girls(wahey) and cut my rent and bills in half overnight. try looking in the classifieds for the houseshare and i know overtime at work is not an attractive proposition but if you are so miserable at home you might as well be at work earning extra. |

As far as I know there is not much help you can get from the government if you don't have kids.
I can tell you now that you won't be any better off on the dole.
Do you spend a lot of money going out? If so then maybe that is where you need to cut down. I know you probably don't want to hear that, especially at your age, but it is the essentials that are most important.
You may be able to save a little bit in changing your gas/ electric supplier. Get a better mobile contract. Swap credit card for one with a 0% tempoary interest rate. Get a better current account. Buy cheaper clothes. Nothing wrong with Primark!
£500 for water does sound a bit much. I live in Thames valley with my wife and 2 kids and pay only about £170 per year.
If your water is paid as rates then you will save a lot of money getting a meter installed.
Check out moneysavingexpert.com for further advice.
Hope things get better for you soon. |

You wont get any support from the government mate, unless your an immigrant. You can get support from one of the insolvency companies. I used Spectrum in Scotland, they wiped 50% off my debts, They can write off 90%if you live in scotland. Your quite right about the cost of living in tha UK , its become a rip off country as everybody knows. I solved that problem by getting out of the hell hole and moved to Thailand where everything is dirt cheap. Example. Having abdominal and stomach pains I went to our local doctor, got a full check up and was diagnosed as having a peptic ulcer. I was given three types of tablets and a bottle of medicine. Total cost one hundred Thai Baht which is about £1.60 uk money |

The most important thing right now is: a. roof over your head, b. Food, utilities paid, and c. transportation everything else you can stop paying until you catch up. How do u do that, sit down and figure out a budget list the your first three priority items and then list the consumer debt. After doing so you will know how much income you need to live, the debt will keep piling up but you need to attack that one at a time by paying the minimum on all credit cards except the one you owe the least, then to this one add as much as you can to it and do religiously then, rolling that payment into the next and the next that is called the snowball method. |

i was in a similar situation - i got a second job for 6 months, worked like dog and sorted it out that way. A company called moneysolve (http://www.moneysolve.co.uk/) also helped me out and gave me some good debt advice. I was no where near needing their IVA or debt management services thoough. They were still helpful. |

If you are seriously worried about your bills, first off get meters installed for free for you gas electric and water,
second try apart time job, something you will enjoy and that pays ok.
Write down all your out goings and figure out what little things you can change or do without, it all adds up.
If you would like to chat more my email addy is in my profile.
I have been there so understand. |

Errrrr......... clothes and going out sound like a good place to start!!
I earn a lot more than you...... and have about the same left after all my bills and then I also have to pay for food, clothes etc. Yes it is hard but you have to sacrifice certain things if you want to keep other luxuries!! I stopped smoking because my fixed rate came to end!!
10 weeks and I'm still not smoking and I've still got my house!!
So calm down and think about where you can save money and what pro-active ideas you can come up with and then implement them!!
Good luck!! You can do it if you need to!!! |
