I personally wouldn't recommend Abbey- I went 6 pence oer drawn and they charged me £30.
My boyfriend has also had trouble with Lloyd's TSB sometimes they take money out of his account and put it back a week later.
My Dad is with HSBC and has never had a problem.
Good luck xx |

I have been with LLoyds for over 30 years and have been happy with them. They have never made a mistake and were quick to refund money on the one occasion I have been a victime of fraud. |

I have been with TSB, NatWest, Lloyds and Abbey National in the past.
Since 1995 I have been with Nationwide. I have a mortgage, savings and current account and when I travel I use my cards to withdraw cash in the USA, Australia, New Zealand and Singapore as I need it.
Nationwide are brilliant. They don't charge me for withdrawing cash abroad and the exchange rate is about the same or better than you can get anywhere else. |

I use Smile. It is an internet only bank, but no problems at all, very happy with them. Paying in cheques and cash can be done at the post-office. |

HBOS isn't bad. You get a good rate of interest if you open a current account with them - over 6% - but only on balances below £2,500. |

Don't go to Alliance and Leicester, they charge 50p a day for an overdraft, whether you arranged one or not, whether you go overdrawn by £20 or £2000 |

alliance and Leicester...i have been with them since 1991 and they are brilliant, i even got to do on line banking with them....it's only a building society but they meet your standards...and never charge a fee for keeping your money in their bank...go for it..you can open an account on line and transfer your other moneys from your old account to your new one...i do recommend them, they are good... |

I have been with NatWest since 1959, although it was then National Provincial (they merged with the Westminster Bank and the District Bank) and have had no trouble. Perhaps it is your branch, not the bank as such. |

Abbey - absolutely dreadful - don't touch with a barge pole!!! Customer service is very poor as shown on Watchdog on BBC1!!
I've been banking with Lloyds TSb now for about 18 months - not one problem, easy to use internet banking and english people on the other end of the phone - which is always a plus when questioning anything about the account!!
So I'd strongly recommend Lloyds!!
Good luck!!! |

Hello Chick,
I have given you a web address in the source box please look it up, this site has been fantastic for me and I have made loads of savings from it. it also helps defeat the banks when it comes to bank charges. It will list the best banks for you to look at and certainly keep you up to date on all financial matters. I hope you give it ago. |
