sweetsunshine1604 | Ways to save money? |
I work full time and make about 300 a week...I also go to school full time and just moved out about 5 months ago. The only bill I really have is rent plus half of all utilities. I make decent money but at the end of the month I never have any money in my savings acount. What are some ways to cut back on my spending? |

When you get paid, pay yourself first. You said you make about 300 a month. Well say put 20 into your savings a week, thats 80 a month, which is 960 a year. You can do without that extra 20 a week, right? Second thing I would do is watch what I spend on the small things. Instead of buying Starbucks, make coffee yourself. This will save you money and time.
Sit down and write down where you money went last month and decide what things you could have lived without. Then you can set out a budget for yourself. Stick to the budget, save 20 a week, and watch spending on small things and your savings will add up fast. |

If you make some home cooked meals, you can have left overs from last nights dinner for lunch the next day. Also buy in bulk so you can use the rest another time. |

Can you have work put your money directly into your savings? If so, let it go there and promise yourself to only pull out a certain amount each month to live on and stick with it. |

It seems as though you are doing everything to maintain the budget that you have if the rent and utilities are your only expense. If you have a cellphone I would ditch that, if you are paying a cable or internet bill I would ditch that. If you run the dishwasher, I would just wash the dishes by hand in with a little bleach in the water. If you use the washer and dryer,. I would just take the clothes to the laundramat. If you eat out or fast food. I would just learn to cook simple dishes. |

- Eat at home.
- Put a portion of your check in the bank before you have the chance to spend it.
- Everytime you break a dollar put the change in a jar. When the jar is full take it to the bank!
- Think before you buy! Ask yourself if you really need it first. |

Pack your lunch, carpool to work, don't buy drinks and junk at gas stations |

Wow, you make more than me and I pay rent, utilities, food, gas, etc and still have some money left. Eating out costs a lot.. Plan out meals for the week when you go grocery shopping so you can buy what you need and make your meals at home. I buy generic brands too, they taste the same and help you save money. If you can, walk places instead of driving to help save on gas money. |

Disaplin is a huge key to saving money.
I think along the lines of "if you never saw it, you never had it".
As soon as you get paid you need to put around $20-30 per week away then start working your way up.
Make a budget that you can stick to, you need to allow yourself a certain amount of money for each week to spend (eg. $50) and not spend more than that.
The more money you make the more money you will spend i am now making about half the amount of money per week that i used to (as i have moved towns - i was also working 3 jobs before and am now just working 1) and i still manage to save about the same amount i used to even though i was making more then, i just used to waste alot of money!
Reward yourself at the end of the month or something and you will soon see how easy it is. |

First you gotta figure out where your money is going. Get a little notebook and write down every purchase you make. Then you start figuring out where you need to economize the most. |

I would say possibly get another roommate?
Stop eating out? I dont know if you already do or not?
I know it is hard to work full-time and be in college. But, I did on top of having my daughter part-time and paying 620 a month in child support plus health insurance. So, I am saying hang in there, dont take on debt, and you will be way ahead of most people. And, when you graduate you can move up at your work, get a new job, or even get a part-time job.
Good luck. |

Then go to the library to get books for free to read.
