Live for today but be prepared for tomorrow. If you can keep from obtaining any debt, do so. Pay for everything out right, don't charge anything. To bad I didn't listen :(

Never use a credit card.
If you can't afford to pay cash for something, do not buy it!

Keep track of every penny you spend for a month, categorize it and see where your money is going. This lets you get a feel for where you are spending unnecessarily.

The best advice I have ever received, and has actually made a huge difference in our lives is.....

"10% tithe always! 15% to retirement(after debt is paid off).
Tell your money where to go, instead of wondering where it went(budget on paper on purpose)!"

I hope this comes in handy to someone else.

House = good debt

Student loans = good debt (because you are investing in a better future)

Credit cards and cars = bad debt

Anything that doesn't hold it's value or if it depreciates then it's a bad investment. Pay cash for those types of things if at all possible. As far as cars, you can get your lowest rates at Credit Unions.

heybulldog
Stay away from credit cards and don't worship at the alter of the almighty fico score.

Don't borrow money. Pay as you go and live on less money than you make.

No such thing as "good debt". Debt is Debt.
