It depends on a lot of things, does everybody in your office just get a yearly rise or do you know if others get one at different times?
If you feel that the company values you then you can always take a risk and say that you have been head hunted or something and that you want to stay but the other company has offered you slightly more money. Then see what they do. Be caseful though not to make it look like you want to leave. This might affect your raise at Christmas though
The other way is to just be upfront and ask if you can have a raise but justify it by personal and business reasons, for example you have been working more hours than you used to and also you need to earn more to get a morgage. This way it sounds like you actually want the money practically, not just because you want more money.

First determine the "usual" time length for a raise of most other employees in the company. You should get a pretty good idea from the "average increases in pay scale" that the company gives to all of its employees. If it is meager and scant----Your working at the wrong place! Your chances are slim.....
Now if they base raises on performance you must be able to prove and document your performance in terms of efficiency and added profits directly attributed by you for the company.
With this "in hand" arrainge for a meeting with the boss.
(be aware of the "mind set" of your boss throughout the day. Are they grumpy in the morning or afternoon. Is there a personal disaster going on in your bosses life? These will limit your bosses attitude so pick an "oportune time" to meet and present your case.
If pay raises are not based on performance and the company has a good track record for giving raises fairly and yours is up soon. Make an appointment, smell good, look good, be pleasant and don't appear desperate. Remember YOO are an asset to the company, or any company thet hires you, so act like it. Be upbeat and Good Luck
PS If you Save Money like all good workers should do, you will be able to look for another job at a higher pay rate.
PS If you continue your education through night school etc. You can move up the ladder.

It depends on whether or not you deserve it.
List all your accomplishments for the last year, as well as what you plan to achieve over the next year or so and how you intend to achieve those targets. Doing this will give you a negotiating tool to justify your request.
If you work for a decent company, you should have an annual appraisal, and that is the best time to bring the subject up.
It is highly unlikely they will give you a payrise just because you want one. We would all do it if it worked that way.
You have to justify your request and prove you are worthy of it.
A £1500 payrise equates to a 9.25% increase in salary, that is a lot. You need to be more realistic if you are going to have any joy at all. |

It depends. Does your company increase your pay annually? If so, you might want to wait unti then. However, if not or you don't want to wait there's nothing wrong with being proactive and discussing this with your line manager.
Set up a meeting with them to talk about it, but go into the meeting armed with reasons for WHY your pay should be increased, examples of work you have done that is outside the scope of your role etc.
Don't go into the meeting demanding more money just 'because', you have to show that you are worth it and have earned it. |

yes == most companies only give payraises out yearly!!! also i think you are asking for the sky -- a 3.55 pay raise is about average!!! be prepare to list off why you deserve the raise -- what have you done to improve the companies worth!!! |

" how.. how much do you want" as the looks at you i fear from the corner of his eyes whilst the swet drips like p.iss from his head to his balls.... demand it in cash from the safe... tell him you want a years pay in cash and again whisper in his ear... "im not gonna work for it either".. then walk out the door with the money... shoot every body that had been an asshole to you in work... and drve to your next job interview.... show the gun as a refrence.. they defo hire you..!!! |

I have just received a hefty pay rise. I joined a biz whose personnel team does not possess my set of skills and knowledge. I told my boss that I was very disappointed that the company failed to give any increment last December. He acknowledged that my experience and knowledge was not easily replaceable.
The irony was that my previous employer had available personnel who have similar experiences and skills consistent with me. They didn't need to worry about losing me.
That's the problem with organizations that seek to keep their headcount lean and the process created several key positions that can choke the biz's efficiency.
To answer your question. Go ahead and ask. If you are dispensable and skill sets are easily available, then you know your answer. |
