What's the fastest way to pay off my credit card?
Should I neglect other bills such as phone, gas and pay as much as I can off the credit card?

Pay all your bills on time and the full amount owed. Don't ignore them because they impact on your credit rating too. Then instead of getting a latte or buying a new outfit or shoes, use that expendable cash and put it on your credit card. Any extra money that you find you have then put it on it. You can even explain to your relatives at Christmas that you are trying to get your finances in order and Christmas will be sparse this year. You know, people understand things like that when you explain it. You might be surprised how supportive people can be for you. Good luck . Get out of debt. It is freeing.

No. Pay utility bills first, and use the money left to pay off the credit card.

No - you need to keep current on your basics. Credit cards are secondary.

The best way to pay off your cards is to cut back on unnecessary spending - movies, eating out, cell phones, etc. Send every extra dime you have to the cc company. Most important - stop using the cards.

try to get a loan with lower interest. then pay that off

Don't neglect your other bills-- that can adversely affect your credit (as well as getting them disconnected). Instead, look for things you can cut back on: a cheaper cell plan, give up the cable TV, skip Starbucks a couple of times a week, eat rice & beans for one meal a week, don;t buy that item of new clothing unless you really need it. But don't force yourself into poverty-consciousness by giving up everything-- you'll most likely rebel and spend more.

I agree with Maggie. Cut back on things you can do without. You can try and call your credit card company and ask them to lower the APR. Pay as much as you can on it each month. And don't use it. They are good for one thing-emergency funds!!!

It is all about priorities! You have to focus on food, housing, transportation and then credit card. It won't do you a darn bit of good to have a zero credit card balance if you're living in the dark or out on the street. Consider reducing expenses that are not necessary while you tackle the credit card balance and you might think about a second job. Just paying a little more on your payment is better than paying less or skipping. If you need help, consider a legitimate debt management program like CCCS.

You need to go on a serious budget. Cut out all unnecessary items. Pay as much as you possibly can on the credit card each month. If you cannot make the payments they request it is better to call them and work out something. Don't just ignore the situation.

If you have a high cell phone bill, cut back to the basic plan. If you have cable cut back to a basic plan or cancel it for a while.

This also includes paying all your other bills. Stay home instead of eating out. Do not charge anything else. If you must have clothes, drugstore items, etc. pay with cash.

Investigate getting a loan from the bank or a family member. Pay the bank and or family member faithfully every month. This probably won't work if you have bad credit now.

You can do it. It just takes a little time. Good luck!

No do not neglect other bills you'll get into debt with them too and that would make things worst. As for your credit card bills what I did with mind I paid and extra 10 dollars each month on the bill. Doesn't sound like much but it did go down quick and all my other bills were paid also. And I didn't make myself so short that I couldn't live.
Like anything else it does take time. And I took my card out of my wallet for a year. This way you can't use it at the store, and you know as well as I do it's so easy to just pull out the card. But if you don't have it with you, you can't use it.

If possible, send double the monthly payment, that way you avoid high interest.

Real Estate Guy
the solution is to earn more. I would recommend getting a part time job to pay off the credit cards. Use 100% of the income to pay off the cards. When is done, don't use them.

If you want to continue with the job, then save 100% of the income.

The best way to manage your money is to know exactly how much income you have and how many expenses you have.

Fold a paper into two columns. On the left hand side write all your income. This is money coming to you like wages, child support, Social Security Income, interest, etc. On the right hand side, write all of your expenses. This is money you pay to others and ranges from monthly fixed expenses to daily/monthly variable expenses. Fixed expenses are rent/mortgage, any insurance, car payments, loans, day care, etc. Daily/monthly variable expenses are gasoline, utilities, telephone/cell phone, education, groceries, personal, home, etc.
