What's the most secure bank?
I have Wells Fargo and my account got broken into, online. So I got a new account number with them and then it happened again! I'm ready to switch banks but what would be the most secure? Would a local bank be better? What about a credit union?

I think I'd put it in a local bank or credit union. I have a paypal account and I transfer that money out of there as soon as I receive it just for safety reasons. I keep my checking account at SunTrust and my money market with a credit union where I used to live (great rates). They have both been very safe.

Bank of America has won awards for its online banking security, as well as set the standard that was adopted by the Federal Reserve for all banks to use for internet sercurity for it's customers. this award has been won for 6 years running, as no one has actually hacked Bank of Americas' systems. Now for the bad news. All banks keep paper copies of almost everything. even when it is not paper it is on backup medium of some sort that is vulnerable to human greed such as trying to steal peoples personal information and use it or sell it for personal gain. There is no 100% system of being secure. the most you can do is be careful with how and when you use your debit cards, limit your online transactions, and always properly dispose of statements and reciepts so no one can see them. I have seen a great deal of "Fraud" that is actaully some one not paying attention to the fact that you agreed to buy a product or service when you bought something else, or you didn't read the end user agreement when you got a new product or service and therefore didn't see the fact that if you don't opt out of information sharing then you give the company you are doing business with permission to sell your information to all thier affiliates, wich increases the chances of you being the victim of actauly fraud.

I have my money spread out through a few different banks, as well as online banks like e-trade. I feel safer knowing that even if someone gets into one, they won't wipe me out.

The most secure bank in the world is Swiss Bank! Not even the government can access it.

Wachovia

Personally, I use a coffee can buried in the backyard. But most of my friends use Wachovia and seem pretty satisfied.

With your problem it seems its more of a Computer problem then a Bank problem. I think your computer is hacked with spywares or other malicious programs.

All the banks that are FDIC insured are safe to do business / transaction with.

I suggest you have 2 accounts 1 savings and 1 checking and keep them in different banks. Keep minimum amount in your online checking account just to pay bills and stuff.
