Depends on your country/state.
If you have a bank account, you can have a debit card in most US states, as most ATM cards work as debit cards as well. |

Wow, a lot of responses that are all over the board, and just as many thumbs-up and thumbs-down that don't really reflect anything. For example, kirsten's response got 3 thumbs-down, but her answer is exactly correct... at least, according to my credit union's policy.
The truth is going to vary depending on each company's own rules, and whatever local laws might apply. Therefore, the best answer is to check with your bank or credit union directly to see what their policy is. |

It depends on the bank ... many banks don't issue debit cards to minors. An alternative for a minor, however, would be to have a parent as a co-owner on the account and have the debit card issued in the parent's name. I've known several teenagers that have done this. The bad thing, though, is that if the child messes up on their bank account and is unable or unwilling to bring the account up, the parent is liable for the charges. It depends upon how much faith each party has in the other. |

Well my 11 year old has one. He has had it since he started secondary school in September of this year. He thinks its cool as he has brought himself psp game, and some Xmas presents.
My 13 year old and 15 year old also have one.
Some banks don't give cards to kids. natwest (bank) have given my 3 cards. they love shopping with their cards.
I think it is halifax who don't give kids cards. my friends kids were turned down because they are 13. (triplets). So she is going to natwest. |

A UK bank can issue one at 16. You are not borrowing on a debit card. It is your money. You have to be 18 for a credit card. |

You don't need to be any certain age as long as the bank is willing to give you one and you already have an account there. |

you don't have to be any specific age- you need to have a certain amount of money to open a checking account and then they could issue you a debit card. |

Old enough to have a job, to earn money, to put into a checkin/savings account, that the debit card is attached to, unless,of course, you intend to mooch off your mommy's account. |
