You need a working monthly budget for each month where all the money is spent on paper ahead of time. Money has a way of slipping out when you don't have a plan for it. The format we use is at http://www.daveramsey.com/media/pdf/fpu_monthly_cash_flow_plan_forms.pdf.

We learned how to do the budget by attending a class sponsored by the Dave Ramsey program called Financial Peace University. What we learned helped us move from two incomes to one when we had our kids and we managed to get out of debt too.

Other money saving tips:

-breastfeed
-check out this e-book my friend wrote about grocery shopping: http://www.grocerybook.com/ This is how I grocery shop. We spend $250/month on groceries including the cat food/litter, diapers for two kids, all our paper goods and food
-$5 pizza from Little Caesar's (if you have it in your area)
-Costco membership to buy diapers and gas-->make sure everything else you buy really is a good deal before you get it
-programable thermostat on the heat/ac or shut it off when you leave the house
-Read The Tightwad Gazette by Amy Dichzyn (that's not spelled quite right) Get it from the library
- Buy your kid's clothing from garage sales or consignment shops--or get them for free as hand-me downs
-Have your spouse car pool to work and split the gas or car pool and live on one car
-Buy purchases with cash and negotiate the price
-Convenience food costs more, cook from scratch
-Plant a garden
-Live a simple life (and hang around others who do too so they don't tempt you to overspend)
-Look for cheap entertainment: walk in the park, library, renting a movie, camping, laying on the floor playing with the dog, swapping babysitting with a friend, $1 movie theater, did I mention $5 pizza :)
-Sell the car with the payment and buy a junker for cash

That's a tougth question, i will try some ideas.

When it comes to grocery, we use to spend a lot of money in cans, and prepared food. You can buy the food not prepared, and make it your own, so it will be less expensive.
Let me give you some examples.

The precooked vegetables, you will find that buying the vegetables raw, and you cook them, you will be able to buy more vegetables, in a less price.

Don't buy so many cans, you can cook your own paste, the sauce for the paste, the carrots, most of the food you buy in cans you can substitute for something you can prepare.

You can eat more vegetables and fruits, than meat, and ham, and sausache, it will be cheaper and healtier.

Of course, try not to take fast food, prepare your meals at home better.

One celular, instead of two, and only if you really need it.

Don't go to the movies, rent some movies and see them at home. You can even buy something cheap for snacks, like raw carrots and cucumber with lemmon and salt, or a fruit coctail, and buy some wine and take it at home, you migth find this experience better than going out.

The only way to save money is to not spend it.
And......that's hard to do. So, pay all your
utility bills, insurance bills, and other must-
pay items; and if there's anything left over,
only spend for things you need (not want).

Pay cash for everything. If you can't afford to pay for it in cash, you can't afford it.

eat at home not restraunts, carry sack lunches....if you do treat yourselfs to dinner out by pass soda or drinks...stick with water....

monthly bills....drop to strictly basic cable
move your thermostat.....if AC is set at 75....set at 78....you shouldn't notice a comfort difference....but the bill will change....

use coupons.....or better yet....buy store brand....

pay your bills on time....don't give companies free money...late charges

each time you buy something, ask yourself if you really need the item. Don 't look at what others have. Buy carefully, set a goal, and strive to reach it.

Do almost all tasks during the day, when there is light out, as well as use battery operated items to cut the electricity bills.

Wash the dishes by hand and minimize the amount of water used.

Find the lowest Internet Service Provider.

Watch sunsets rather than TV.

Walk or bike to places.

If renting a home, ask to help out with the maintenance for reduce rent. Be sure to do a good job, otherwise, it won't work.
