What are some of the small ways you cut spending?
Some of mine: saving coupons, buyer the cheaper brand of food, coasting down hills when I drive, only having ONE Starbucks grande latte per week.

DO you have your own place?
Shut of lights and appliances (TV's) when not home or in the room. Switch to the new energy bulbs. Keep your A/c at 76, and your heat at 68. Use shrink wrap for your windows during winter. Make sure you car is tuned up, your tires inflated to the right pressure (weekly on the tires) and plan your trips to insure best millage. If the store is only a block or two away walk don't drive. Plan your meals, and don't let your leftovers sit in the fridge for a week and then throw them out. If you have a broadband connection for the internet, and a landline for your phone switch to Vonage ( my bill went from approx $80 a month to $28.50) pay off your credit cards wasted fees. Hang your laundry out to dry instead of using a dryer. Only wash large loads not 3-4 things. for cooling let the fan blow the heat out during the day, and in at night then close the windows during the day and pull down the shades to keep it cooler. When you cook cook enough for a couple of meals, then see above about using leftovers

I never buy coffee outside my home unless it is a need to function, and I am far from home.
Don't shop is the best answer. Shop at places you don't expect to buy food. You can save at least a dollar on brand names, although they don't accept coupons, sometimes their own. If you don't have any coupon, it doesn't matter, you save the dollar.
Buy the incredible sales they sometimes have at the drugstores for food, and stock up this way. It depends how large your family is, and if you need family size items, go the places you don't expect to buy food. If you need single serve items, go for the drugstore sales.
Gasoline is out of my price range altogether.

Well i fix my lunch from the dinner i had the day before.I don`t buy or dring much pop so i also buy me a big gallon jug of juice ,Tampico is cheap and tasts good.If i need anything from the store i try to stop after work on the way home, instead of going home and than turning back around to go back to the store.I also buy a lot of off brand foods and actually have to say that a lot of times they do tast better.I cook every day so i like to make a weekly mealschedule and base my grocery list on that.during the week i try to cook inexpencive meals but they still are good .On weekends especially on sunday i like to cook something just a little bit expenceive like a small roast.

Cook meals from scratch.

Only matinee movies.

Only let the teenage girls shop for cloths once a quarter. (it doesn't make the "i have nothing to wear" any worse then weekly shopping)

mow your own lawn

wash your own car

grow your own fruit trees

Eating less fast food.

I buy extra quantities at the grocery stores case lot sales. I stock up for six months on food that we will eat (ex. spaghetti sauce, mac and cheese, tuna, etc.) and save up for the next big sale.

Ellak M
Cut out the latte, Walk or take the bus. Shop on double coupon days

walk or bike instead of drive-saves gas. dont use air conditioning in the summer-saves electric. turn off lights etc when not in use. shop for different car insurance-it works...you need to analyse your monthly expenses and look at types of expensed you are incurring that are variable (different each month) and start trimming

dont drive somewhere unless its absolutely necessary. my mother would make me walk. cut down on snacks so u dont have to buy them as often. watch electricity usage. watch water usage. play games with the family. hang out with friends for entertainment. watch how often u eat out. dont go over on cell phone minutes or text messages. dont wake up in the middle of the night to buy stuff on QVC like my grandma does. send the ridiculous things that grandma orders for u without asking u and then expects u to pay for it yeah just send that stuff back. dont go to the store to buy a snack. if something looks good at the store but u cant afford it then dont buy it. dont ask for money to go to a pop machine and buy a pop when u can get a whole twelve pack for 2.50. buy off brand food. it is the same and made in the same place it is just put into a different package

John Rambo
Don't shop. That alone should do it.

If it's not enough cut back on fast food and dining out. Make all of your own meals.

I read an answer the other day that I thought was brilliant... when you spend money round up to the nearest dollar in your check register and when you deposit something round down.

kirk_garza
basically just quick nickle and diming urself. Every time you want to spend that 65 cents or 75 cents for the candy bar or can of soda, save it, you be amazed how quickly it can add up. Not saying ur do that now, but for what ever you spend it on now. I did it for a few months, and found I spent over 100.00 in silver change just for the extra junk food or drinks etc....

Before you make any purchases, go to comparison shopping sites like PriceGrabber and bargain hunting sites like SearchAllDeals. Don't ever pay full price!
