social security numbers mean you could pretend to be that person in any legal setting....it could allow you to take their money....their insurance.....education...tax benefits..any institution requiring proof of identification would recognize you as the person whose number you stole. its benefits are usually financial. If you are an illegal immigrant and accquire a number of someone legal who isnt using that number anymore, like someone dead, you have gained a legal status. |

In order to get a job in this country you must be able to produce a social security card. If you don't have one you need to get one from someone who already has one.
Identity theft is a very serious problem in today's society. it costs the victims time and a lot of money to straighten out their finances after someone has used their identity. it costs society billions of dollars in unwarranted social services benefits to ineligible recipients.
What's the big deal? Tax dollars of yours and mine as well as the costs of straightening our identity problems created by such activity. |

Wow. A social security number is basically your life in the states. It is your line to credit cards & so much more. It is your identity! It is a huge deal because if someone messes up your credit, you may not be able to get a home or other things. This person can get all of your good stuff and apply for things you don't want. Go research identity theft and fraud. |
