What changes have you made in anticipation for the recession?
Times are getting hard, could you please suggest any ways to cut back on cost and still enjoy life a little. I've been walking to save on fares to work and I've started feeling fit. What have you cut back on?

CUT ON EVERYTHING!!! I'm a 16 yr old teen by the way. Cut on cars by using a bike or public transportation. Cut on utility bills by not using much of it or going outside in the sun to do your work. Eat small portions at a time to satisfy your stomach. Cut your cellphone minutes up. CANCEL your expensive home phone if you have a cell phone. Cut back on wants and focus on your needs. Save about 50% of your payworths check. hmm, Sell your junk on livejournal!!! Sell your used collegebooks and stuff.

The recession, IF it comes, will be ENTIRELY the result of the media convincing people like you that it is coming. The term 'self-fulfilling prophesy' applies.

The good thing about GOOD money management is that the best thing to do IN a recession is EXACTLY the same as the best thing to do when there is no recession.

I HAVE been working to ELIMINATE debt. My reason is because that is ALWAYS the best plan. Current economic conditions are not a factor.

I've cut back on the impulse spending. I purchased an efficient car in 2005. I've adjusted the thermostat a little. Not making the annual pilgrimage to Florida this summer. I've also opened 3 online savings accounts. I move my money between them whichever is currently paying the most interest. Stopped playing the stock market before it started heading South. I also maintain no credit card debt. Instead I use a credit card that pays cashback for every purchase and pay it off every month so I make money from the credit card companies.

We've started using coupons more, buying in bulk, and stocking up when things are on sale. We are still taking our vacation, but it will be 150 miles away instead of 1500 miles. We watch movies at home instead of going out. When we have a party, we ask each person to bring something instead of us buying everything. I started using the library again instead of buying so many books. We repair stuff that breaks instead of buying it new (as long as it's the cheaper). With the money we save by doing all of that, we treat ourselves to dinner once in a while or something we want. It's all common sense stuff, but when the economy is bad we realize how much we haven't been doing all that.

And contrary to what some people believe, we are not only headed for a recession...we're ultimately heading for a depression. People laugh when I say it, but let's see who's laughing this October (or at the very latest Spring 2009). I'm still amazed that otherwise intelligent people can't see what's happening with the mortgage crisis and sky high gas/diesel prices. I'm usually not one to worry, but this is way worse than many may realize. And it may already be past the point of no return (no way to fix it). Sorry for the gloom and doom...you just brought up a great question. Good luck :)

I paid off my mortgage so am debt free. Otherwise I've made very few changes. I make a good deal of money, but live very much within my means (that's how I was able to pay off the mortgage). I take the bus to work and generally don't buy things unless I really need them. The only real luxury I afford myself is my White Sox season tickets and my downhill skiing in the winter. And if I had to I could give them up or cut them way back.

I only order Alaskan caviar not the Russian, which I prefer.

- cut on costs, especially on little luxuries like buying coffee at work, chips or fries or beer on weekends, movies at the theater, eating out, etc
- find cheaper means of entertainment like free concerts at the malls, window shopping (instead of actually shopping), potluck with friends on weekends
- save as much as you can
- eliminate debt
- work harder and smarter

Start cutting down on unnecessary expenditures, like over buying and spending on non essential goods, food stuff, drinks, overseas travels. But still maintaining a healthy life style.

There will be no recession despite the left wing dying news channels. How are you affected right now.You arent.Gas is the only thing. You dont have thousand in the stock market so why worry about everyone else? You are safe even though you are force fed the nonsense by hate filled dumacraps. relax, ejoy life and think for yourself.

I don't clothes shop as much as I use to. Plus I use to buy expensive extensions for my hair. I no longer do that either :(

Well, I believe that the recession is here. I have made changes with grocery shopping i.e buying cheaper cuts of meat, use coupons, eliminate a ;ot of pre-packaged processed food (to expensive and plus its not healthy)......started frequenting the dollar stores...mixing cheap shampoo with exspensive to stretch it out etc, eating out less.. and of course combining everyday errands because of the high cost of gas.
