Lauren | What do I do with my paycheck? |
After taxes I make $1,765 bi-weekly. I don't pay rent or any bills besides my cellphone. I stay home because I need to help my mom but she has enough money to cover the bills. I put all the money in my checking but I just don't kno what to do with it.
I want to safe to move out one day but what do regular working people do with their money?
Share with me how you spend your paycheck every week you get paid. |

LOL Send it to me!
I am a full time college student by night and work full time during the day. It is a lot of hassle!
Put your money in savings. Let it grow. You'll be glad you did that.
I have bills i got since being in college. I pay about 370 a month for those. I have a cell for which I pay 35 a month. Car insurance 160 per month. Water, electricity, and an apartment that run around 300. And then there's gas. . .
BTW what do you do???? |

I put money in a savings account so it can earn interest. I pay my credit card bills (2), and then somehow the rest of the money just disappears. . .I honestly don't know where a lot of my money goes, usually just random things. For example, last check I got I bought gas, groceries, a wedding present, clothes, out to eat with my boyfriend, to the movies with my friends, tithe to God at church. |

well since i've been out on my own and in college(19)my weekly pay is 750.00 and ALL that goes to bills.
example:
rent:400
lights:90.00
water:25.00
cellphone:97.44
cable:161.00
car insurance:106.99
car:237.00
food:40.00
gas:40.00
so you see life is a bi**h when it comes to bills, but you have to learn one day.right? |

Talk to a financial advisor on the best way to save to eventually buy your own home.
We pay many bills with our paychecks. Cable, phones, electric, mortgage, insurance, etc.
Then we use some of the money for household items and food. Anything left over we try to save some and use the rest to have a night out, or just let it sit in our checking to help with the next weeks bills! |

ON REGULAR DAY TO DAY EXPENSES. I GO SHOPPING ALOT. WHY WASTE MONEY WHEN YOU CAN SAVE? I THINK YOU SHOULD PUT YOUR MONEY IN A SAVINGS ACCOUNT FOR FUTURE REFERENCES WHEN U NEED IT MOST. |

I would suggest you to spend 10% of money on equities like quality stocks and quality mutual funds.
By doing that your money grows. It is better than keeping money in checking account which doesn't fetch you more than few pennies.
I would suggest you to consult good financial advisor to invest on equities. If you are like me , you can do your own research and put money on good stocks.
Hope this helps. |

Put a good chunk of it in a money market account. Save up 6 months of your monthly income. Then have some fun! Go shopping, go on a weekend trip, get a pedicure, invest some more, buy your friends/family a card...I wish I was in this predicament :-) |

That's some pretty decent coin for not having any bills.
1. Open an IRA - set up an automatic monthly deduction from your checking to go into it. My guess is that you're not too interested in the financial markets so you can play it safe and just put it into an S&P 500 index fund.
2. Make some other investments. Putting over $3k in checking every month is really doing nothing for you. Open a low cost brokerage account and either put it in a simple mutual fund (again, something like an S&P 500 index). Or get some solid stocks. Companies like Disney, Anheuser-Busch, Coca-Cola, and the like will grow your money with relatively low risk.
3. If you're simply flush with cash, donate some to a good cause.
4. Buy something frivilous (what good is money if you can't enjoy it). |

Pay bills, eat out a few times a week, spend it on stuff I like (comic books, movies, music,etc.). You should still help your mom pay the bills if you're using her place, it's the decent thing to do. |

Put your money in a money market mutual fund account earning 5%.
Next, set up a budget and make sure you include a line for rent to pay your mom. She is not going to tell you she needs the money but you should be responsible and pay your own way. After you set up a budget see how much is left over and start invest in no load growth and income funds and international funds.
But before you do all of that first check with your employer to see if they offer a 401k and start investing in it. Sounds like you are young and can really benefit from the compounding of returns on your investments. Maybe your employe also has a match. Look into it.
Good luck. |
