What do you consider a decent annual income??

Additional Details
Just wanted to let everyone know that all the thumbs down didn't come from me.... I wasn't looking for a specific answer, just really curious actually - I wish I would have asked were people were geographically located because I think that makes a huge difference

anything above poverty level

Stevie. [Gabor]
I live in Alabama, and I consider 30-40K decent, although that I know is different compared to someone in NY, but things don't cost that much down here. =)

brandx1228
Depends upon your lifestyle and where geographically you live...Example: $65K/yr; in the midwest is mediocre....$65K/yr in an urban locale is poverty level. This is a pretty vague question.

eddie9551
It really depends on where you live. $30k will get you by in Tulsa or Wichita but is a terrible wage for San Fransisco or New York City

$70,000 for a single person is well for Baton Rouge, LA which is currently the big city.

Cynthia
It really depends on where you live, and what you think you need to survive.

I live in Oklahoma, and a decent income here would probably be 30-35k.

James W
Depends what you mean by decent. On average, $50K to $60K seems pretty good.

Whatever allows you to live well enough that you're doing more than just surviving. Any surplus should go into personal savings. As long as you have enough to afford four walls and a roof, you're doing fine.

kathyread5
Not a specific amount, but enough to pay all bills, no debt, and a little extra to have for savings and vacation.

♥Vesi♥
Depends on how much u spend but lets say about 50K

ItsFriday
Depends on where you live. I would consider decent over 200,000 euros in Paris.

beccajanef
Decent for who, and where? For a single person? For raising a family? What size family? In San Diego, CA, or Sand Springs, OK? NYC or St. Louis?

A decent annual income should cover your housing, utilities, food, insurance, health care, savings, charitable contributions and some fun money. The actual amount needed will totally vary depending on your situation, what your preferences are and where you live.

Steve R
$45K for one person is the average.

Sam
To support yourself, $40k.
To support a family, $80k.

International Scotsman
Well that is a question only you can really answer, what would you consider decent. If it was me I would be taking all my annual expenditure (not easy to calculate) and then be looking for an income at least 25% above expenditure. That way you will be able to save for the future and have a reserve for any major emergencies.

I think $30,000 or above is decent......could always be better!!!

Jacob S
Single person, supporting yourself, about 25k a year. Shack up with a man or woman and it could be about +50k!

Palehose

Probably above 30K, but that might be stretching it, maybe at least 40 (also depends on if you have a family, where/how you live, etc)

one person 50K...2 person 125K...thats what i would be happy with...would always want more...but think i would be satisfied with these amounts.

Lots of thumbs down!? Why ask the question if you arent going to like any of the answers?

At or below $25,000 annually is somewhere that you don't really want to be. Anything above that amount is more live-able... considering that you use your money wisely and not frivolously. This is considering that it would be a household of 1 to 2 people.

fartin martin
30K is decent

thejaundiced_eye
$200k. You can't live in a major city on less. If you do, you are not living. You are surviving. Big difference.
