Since your name is Windycity, I will give you more detail than needed: I moved from my nice 1 BR in Evanston to a tiny studio apt. it Rogers Park. For 2 years I hardly ever went out, ate a lot of tuna, and worked overtime of approximately 20 hours a week (with time and a half). This combination gradually got me out of debt. I now have my own condo and go out whenever I feel like tearing myself away from Yahoo Answers. |

Earn more money
OR
Spend less money
But to move forward you have to "fix" the fact that you are a person who has been willing to spend money you had not yet earned.
Check out some books by Dave Ramsey at the library, or google "debt snowball" |

Cut up your credit cards immediately and halt all spending! DONT consolidate your debts as you will lose everything if you can't keep up with your debts. Sometimes it is for the best if you let go of your car, etc (reposessed). If you consolidate your debts you can't shed certain debts. Sell as much as you can and take a second job to catch up. Never get into that situation again once u are free! |

Keep a spending diary, and see where your money goes. Once you know that, you can do a budget, and try to cut out any unnecessary spending. You also need to work out your priority debts, such as rent and food, and never ever ever miss a payment with those. |

First, see "the Pursuit of Happyness" it will help you keep perspective. Second, read Suze Orman's "tips for financial success"
Then get another job and work your *** of till you catch up. |

Take your credit card bills.
Pick the higest owed bill. Pay DOUBLE the monthly payment on it. The others, pay the minimum requested payment.
When that one is paid-in-full, take then next highest bill, and start paying DOUBLE on the monthly payment for that card.
Until all are paid in full.
Takes time, yes, but it can be done. I did it twice!!
Also, if nagging calls and letters; contact Consumer Credit Counseling Service. Free agency, also on the internet. NOT those other agencies. They will help. |

Try and pay off as much as you can, but if you really can't afford to make payments file for bankruptcy. But be warned bankruptcy is not to be taken lightly your credit will be ruined. |

CUT THE CARDS UP! Use cash rather than debt/credit. Learn to make a budget and STICK TO IT. Hard? You betcha--at first. After awhile it becomes old hat. |

First : Read Dave Ramsey's Book-7 steps to Financial Freedom
Second: List your debts: lowest amounts owed to highest amount owed
3. After paying off lowest amount bill, add your extra money to the second lowest amount.
4. Now keep going down the list
5. It helps to not buy anything that is not necessary, and then not buying some you might think necessary
It is a struggle, but I bet in one year, your in better financial condition.
Live from a budget, get away from credit card mentality, if you can't pay cash, you can't buy it. Get hard on yourself for a while, good luck. |

You could declare bankruptcy, but you really don't want to do that. |

consolidate your debt, sell something and put the money against the debt, get rid of the extras such as the best cable package, fancy phone packages, down size and learn your lesson well....many get their affairs in order just to end up in the same boat a year later |
