UW | What do you guys think of my company's 401K plan? |
In a nutshell my company matches 50% of every dollar you put in your 401K retirement plan but only up to 6% of your yearly salary. Does this sound like a good enough 401K plan to continue working in this company? Additional Details Well actually i'm 20 years old but i am thinking about my future as well as my present state. I don't make too much money in this company about $10.25 an hour but i guess that's why the 401K plan is somewhat good. |

It is better than most but not all! If you are judging your employment by one standard then maybe not. Is your salary Low, Middle or High when compared to others in your sector? Since a decrease in Pay but increase in 401K match could result in a lower total income! |

wonderful! hubby's is close to that, he's been at his job for 4 years. |

401k should only be one piece of the pie when determining whether a job suits you or not. Your 401k match is good not great...the norm is becoming essentially a 100% match up to 4% of income (safe harbor) while yours is up to 3%. Equally as important as the level of the match should be when you become vested in it. If you are vested immediately then your's is nothing to scoff at and I'd look at other factors when deciding to stay or go. |

Yes. I worked for a company that went up to 8% at 100% matching. Sounds good to me. What is the year an employee would be invested? 1, 3 or 5 years?
The company I work for now is 100% matching up to 6%. |

Yep that's a GOOD deal. Pretty standard as well. A 50% return on your money is good on the first 6%, and anything above that, well you can usually pick the funds to invest in for that money as well. Not many other 'places' that'll give you a match like that!
You can then open a rollover 401K account, with say, Fidelity, so that you can move your money out of that employer's 401K into your own if you leave that employer, which will give you better choices for funds.
My company does the same match.
Good Luck,

That sounds like a good one. My current company matches 25% up to 6%. My last was the same are yours is. |

If the retirement plan is the only reason you are working there, then I would suggest you find a different career. The company's 401K is a fairly common plan. It is the exact one I had before I retired. Some companies will match dollar for dollar but that is becoming more rare each year. A 50% match is good and if there are several investment options in the plan, then be happy. |

I don't think that the quality of a company's 401(k) plan is reason enough to quit. Those rates are okay. My company matches 100% up to the first 5%, but I would leave for a better salary. The 401(k) would not make or break my decision to leave. |

My company only matches 3% of my salary so I'd say you're good. |
