Work hard, question your spending habits, know your expenses, stick to a budget and get financial advice from a professional, whose credentials you can verify. I can't recommend following advice from strangers on a public website. |

I think the best way to save money is when your going out, bring no more than what you planned to spend. and dont get a credit card. its heaps easier to save when you dont have the means to when your out. |

There are a few very good suggestions given here. With regards to saving money the best advice is to decide to save say 15% of your income each week. Open an account with a bank where there are no account keeping fees and where the bank will pay you a good rate of interest. One of the best accounts at present is with Bank West. They have an account which pays close to 9.7% pa. You may only put up to $500.00 per month into it for twelve months. At the end of twelve months the money will be transferred to another account which will probably only pay 7.5% pa, buy that is still good.
Get your employer to deduct the 15% from your wage and deposit it each week into this account. Once you get into the habit of saving money on a regular basis you will be less tempted to spend it in a cavalier manner. Make some long term plans for your savings and once you have accumulated say $20,000 then look at some other forms of investment such as real estate or shares in public companies. Another form of saving is to allocate a percentage of your wage to superannuation. This can be by an after tax contribution or by salary sacrifice. You could start with say 5% of salary contribution to superannuation. Again your employer can deduct this from your salary and deposit it into the superannuation account on your behalf. |

If you're asking the question, I assume you're starting off in personal finance. First advise, be honest with yourself, like many other things in life, if you're not, you're only cheating yourself.
Set a list of what you need money for and how much is needed to cover that expense per week or two weeks, depending on when you get your pay.
Make yourself a spread sheet or use Excel for one with two colomns for each expense. One will be for your ins and out of money (in for when you get your pay and out for when you spend). The second will be for your total of the expense in question.
Every time you get your pay, use a line to put the money in the proper colomn. Then use another to put the money you spent for that expense.
I forgot to mention that you should keep your first two colomns for date and comment, the date doesn't need to be wide, but the comment should be wide enough for a small sentence to enter comments. The comments will be useful to note where you spent too much so you can readjust the ammounts needed for an expense where you don't put enough money in.
Use this budget sheet to see where your money is going. MAKE SURE YOU HAVE A SAVINGS COLOMN AND KEEP IT FOR THE REST OF YOUR LIFE!! I've been doing this for 20 years and even if the money in my savings wasn't always used for long term investments, I used it for important purchases like buying a relyable car for a good job or to buy a house.
I know it'll take a while to get into the habbit of loooking at this sheet, and at first, you might think it's only 20$ per week your saving, but I see it as 20$ per week is 1000$ a year! Believe me, not a lot of people disipline themselves to make it there.
I never earned much, but when you know where your money's going, you can look at your budget sheet afeter a few months and see where you can transfer maybe 5$ per week that's not being used week after week from given expense into your savings. And that's how you really start saving money, because you get hooked to finding a few bucks here and there to set aside for a trip/project.
KEEP AWAY FROM CREDIT!! Credit is the worst habbit to get into for you spend on the plastic, then use the money from your budget and you end up spending twice what you can HONESTLY afford.
Everyone I know who uses a budget have beautiful success stories, and the funny thing is, these are all people who don't earn that much. Most people I know who earn a lot of money, think they don't need a budget and end up with nothing at the end of the year. |

I lend money through Prosper.com which is located in San Francisco, CA. To date, I have been a part of 15 loans and I receive a portion of my principal and interest every month. Borrowers can borrow up to 25k and have three years to pay it off. Usually, I lend around $135 per month and try to get into a loan that will pay at least 15% interest. I only lend money to business loans and people that have a credit rating of "A" or "AA". Some borrowers may have a couple hundred lenders to fund their request. This month (July) I will be receiving a little over $65. I have lended $2,102 since May 2007. I keep using the money that I make plus send to Prosper about $70 per month so I can get into a new loan every month. Saving a few dollars per day really adds up in 30 days. Everythings is done online, do not contact borrowers, and do not do any paperwork. Prosper does it all, I just collect. |

The best way to make money: Get a job, preferably a high paying one. The best way to save money: Don't pay interest. That means pay cash no credit. Don't spend what you don't have and don't live above your means. |

Work, that is how most people make money. Saving money is easy sometimes lol, don't buy things you don't need. Although sometimes you need to treat yourself. Instead of spending $50 per wk on junk save for several months and buy something really nice for yourself. Put money into savings and forget about it. |

You do not give your age, but the best way to make money is to have a job in which you have a passion for what you are doing. If you really believe in a product it will be easier to sell that product, but if you are just trying to sell that product to make money you will probably fail. Find what you truly love and you will do well at it. The money will come.
As far as saving money goes. Look at your budget. You may say you are not on a budget but you are. Cut out wasteful spending. Reduce eating out, partying, cigarettes, extra clothes, shoes, unnecessary items. You will probably see that you can save an extra $200 a month. When you get paid (depending on how many times a month) take a portion of that money and put it in savings. Do not touch that money. Use it only for emergencies (real ones) or use it to buy large ticket items. One thing you will see is that by paying cash you will reduce the interest you pay on credit cards. That will reduce your expenses even more. It will snowball.
Learn to live on 80% of what you earn and save part of the difference and donate the other portion 10% to church or charity. That will pay dividends. Not necessilarily monetary, but other dividends. |

The answer to making money is simple..get a job. The real question is how much money do you want to make? That would give you more quality answers otherwise you will get the same response from everyone. Your next question on how to save money is where I can give you some quality advice. NEVER put your money in a bank. Banks average payout is 1-1.5% inflation is currently at 3.1% are you saving. Next do not get stocks, bonds, mutual fund or anything like that it is all a rip off by banks trust me. You get like 5-6% then you are taxed on the money you made not just what you put in. DO NOT invest in the stock market. If you are not experienced you will ultimately loose more than you make. I know exactly where to save your money. you get 12%.Risk free because of a 1% floor. TAX FREE. and it costs you nothing to get into it. e-mail me if you want to know more details. |

It's easy and you receive a check once a month. I do it and I've received over $200 so far. All you have to do is fill out simple surveys which takes about 1 to 2 minutes. Oh and by the way, it's FREE!! If you don't do this you're seriously missing out. |

If you are looking to purchase something in particular (like a car, washing machine, etc) I would suggest getting a temporarily part time job to cover the cost of the item then quit the job when the item is paid for. |

Invest in property or Real Estate. You can't go wrong, because Real Estate can't do anything than grow in value.
I built a house seven years ago and sold it last year. It went for triple the price I spent building it etc.
Apart from that, save all you can and don't spend money on things you don't need. |
