There is nothing you can do as its his word against theirs . Never send money through ordinary post it rarely gets to its destination. That is why you should use recorded delivery then you have some comeback at them. |

Sounds like a lie. Even if its the truth, you'd have to be pretty stupid to send cash through the mail. |

If the envelope looked like it hadn't been touched, the mate wouldn't know that there wasn't any money in it. Get the point? Even a postal inspector leaves evidence. |

I'm afraid that money being sent in the post is never a good idea because of exactly this. You either have o prove your friend is a liar or the post office is.
If you HAVE to send money through the post it is best to do it recorded delivery because then you will know if it has been tampered with because of the seal.
Sadly there are thieves within the royal mail who can quite easily make it look like it hasnt been tampered with, but then again your friend could well be lying. |

If you lose the money, you lose the money. If there was money in it in the first place you are never gonna get it back! Ask them to Send by recorded post next time, or not at all! |

Sadly, money in the post is stolen. It is best to send money by cheque or postal order.
I doubt if the post office would be able to do anything to help.
Sorry. |

Sending money with a letter is very unsafe. If it disappears then that's it gone for good, whereas a cheque can be replaced. |

I did this not so long ago and the letter never arrived. Nothing I could do - you can get insurance if you send valuable stuff via post. |

well he took the risk, so it is his fault.

A friend of mine has had money stolen in the mail several years ago, and there was no evidence of the envelope being opened. She has since smartened up and only sent Money Orders, etc ~ definitely worth the couple of dollars extra!
It IS possible for the Post Office to open your mail and seal it back such that you would never know -happens all the time. It is usually a hairline slit at the top, and when it is re-sealed, you can't tell. |

Well anyone at the post office can open your mail, see what inside of it and then put it in a new envelope without you even knowing it and when you get it, it'll look like it never has been touched. |
