Do you know what a credit card is?
Debit card allows you to pay at shops which accepts credit card payments. However, you do not have a line of credit with the debit card, therefore, you could only spend with the amount you have in your bank account associated to the debit card.
Btw, you could not get in debt because of a debit card. It only allows you to spend what you have. You could get in debt with a credit card, because you could be spending money you have yet to earn.
Eg. U apply for a POSB debit card link to your POSB savings account. You could pay for your purchases at let's say Isetan with your debit card, by signing for it (just like the credit card). The amount would be deducted from your account immediately.
It is convenient overseas as it is easily to find a shop that accepts credit card and debit card, then NETS. |

Debit as the term implies - deduction from your account.
When u use ur deit card, the money value what you have spent is deducted/debited from ur account.
in other words u spend your money wiht the help of a credit card, than a credit card.
In a credit card, u use the bank's money. the bank gives u a credit of say Rs.x to spend with. You later have to pay for it.
it is always better to spend ur money than the bank's money.
it it always safe to use a debit card. |
