I know only three people who actually make a decent living working via the Internet. There's me--I'm a freelance editor and writer. I have 20 years' experience in the business. I've worked for major publishing houses. I just happen to work on the Internet now because it's a faster way of sending manuscripts and so forth than mail, and because everybody who writes copy for Web sites needs an editor for that copy. Then there's my friend who buys lots of "last season's" designer clothes cheap and sells them on eBay. I don't know how much she makes, but it does involve her forking out lots of money to buy the merchandise, warehousing it, writing up descriptions on eBay, etc. It helps that she knows EVERYTHING about fashion already, so she knows what to buy and how to sell it. Then there's my friend the math genius who make a very nice living betting online. Except he doesn't just go, "I'll take the Cowboys for $200." For any given game, he has at least 30 bets out with all sorts of different online betting establishments--some to win, some to lose, some to win by so much, etc. He doesn't make money because he's good at picking teams--he makes money because he can figure out, mathematically, how to win a little bit no matter what happens, just by taking all the different odds at all the different places. If you can do any of these things, I say go for it. But I have a few other friends who fell for these "work on the Internet" schemes and they all lost tons of money, because they're all scams. If you can figure out a way to use the Internet to do what you are qualified to do, great. But if you can't, don't do it. |
