What is cheaper? Getting money from cash machines on holiday, or getting money exchanged before you go?
Going on holiday to Bulgaria next week, Cheers

Hi,

Definately consider getting travellers cheques or money exchanged before you go as more banks are charging you interest for just using your bank card abroad!

Someone I know was being charged a lot just for taking cash out and didn't realise till she was home and it kind of ruined the hoilday mood!

Get travellers cheques as these can be replaced within 24 hours is lost or stolen and then get some change exchanged if wish.

Have a lovely holiday!

My experience when travelling is wherever you are about to go, change a little money in the country of departure - say, something like 100 pounds - then, when you arrive in the other country, find a bank or an exchange place that has a sign NO COMMISSION.
Avoid anything like that in touristy places - resorts, airports, hotels - they will rip you off, if they can. Go inland, where prices are normal. The usual rate (with slight fluctuations) is:
1 British pound = 2.84 Bulgarian leva.
Don't know about travellers' cheques, I suppose banks do; but avoid ordinary cheques in Bulgaria. It's cash economy and cheques are not used at all.
You can find ATMs everywhere, but you'll be charged about 2 - 4 pounds per transaction.

Before you go , and take a good proportion in travellers cheques as you are then insured against loss , or theft.
It is easy to change these cheques either for cash at a bank or even your hotel so long as you present your passport
Also most restaurants will take them as payment , again so long as you have your passport.
have a great break.

Get it at the ATM. Money changers usually charge a fee above and beyond the exchange rate.

When you get money from an ATM some banks charge you for every transaction as well as exchange rates. If you exchange before you go, pretty much ALL banks will charge you a commision to exchange. I usually go with my card but go to ATMs where I am not charged for cash dispension. The machine usually tells you if it will charge you or not. If you can't find a machine with no charge, withdraw bigger amounts less often as the charge is the same however much you withdraw

andy
I would suggest to get travellers cheques as they are safe to use.
If you get money from ATMs, some banks charge about 2 pounds for one cash withdrawal each time.

mister ed
depends strictly on the exchange rate at the time of money transfer!!!

I have always changed my money in the country I go to I find they offer better exchange rates. I should think Bulgaria would welcome anyone with £££s

Ask M
Depends on the exchange rate at the time you are leaving

the first thing ishow much money do want to exchange? think about it depend on exchange rate in comparison to the fee. if you take money out multiple times it would cost you more.............. matter of fact if the exchange rate is the issue you should think about stayin home!

Good morning, first of all, where are you going?an how long for? All banks charge for use of card/s,plus local (NOT INTERNATIONAL) currency rates of the day,in which ever country/s you visit. If you are/will be travelling within the Europion union the currency is EURO'S.Most UK post offices
now exchange UK pounds for euros, they DO NOT charge any
interest, also, depending on which of the high street banks you use, with some of those you can also withdraw funds at the same post offices, interest free! So, you can either use your card to withdraw UK money,(which helps if you have forgotten to pay for something before you leave)then exchange that for euros, just before you are ready to depart. Or you can just buy euros. If you do not use a banking house that allows you free interest at the post office, then you must use a place they stipulate for your zero interest withdrawals, then, buy euros at a relevent PO.Anywhere outside Europe, you should use travelers cheques, insurance covers any loss.
Have fun, an be careful. PaPARIAHTTZ

Where are you going from?
If the UK - go to the Post Office & change your money - they have been advertising no fee changing. I think it depends on what card you use if you go to a cash point - and what type of account you have but you will generally be charged for each transaction.
