No you don't have to 18 to open your own account. I had one at 15 and was working full time at 16 and my account was my OWN account with no parental strings either!
Natwest do a young persons account and give debit cards from age 11! Think it's their adapt account!
I had my own SOLO debit card with them at 15 and that was over 11 years ago!!!
You may still need a parent with you when you open the account, BUT it will be your OWN account!!!!!
Look into Natwest and also Barclays, I was with both and found them great! You can even use your Solo debit card in shops and online!
