Turn off lights and appliances when not in use.
Get energy efficient light bulbs.
If there is a manual way of doing something, do it that way instead of plugging in an appliance.
Use a fan instead of the air conditioner.
Restrict the use of a diswahser and hand wash those glasses and plates.
There are some solar powered gadgets that can replace some that use electricity. |

Turn off your air conditioner and lights if you do not use them.
The best way......
I am thinking of letting go your air con and change them with an electrical fan. If you rarely cook, maybe you can change your refrigerator with the one without freezer.
Use laptop instead of PC. |

Buying fluoresecent light bulbs. It will make a huge difference. THey use about 1/5 of electricity that normal light bulbs do. And they last much longer. |

Besides the obvious turning things off when you're not using them, you should actually unplug things not in use. Most electronic devices still draw electricity when they're plugged in and turned off, whether it be to keep an internal clock going or just illuminate a "fully charged" light or something of that sort. Also, if you're using electric heating/cooling, just changing the temperature by 2 degrees can make a big difference. So, if you normally keep your home 70 degrees in the winter, low it to 68 and you'll save quite a bit over time. Same goes with air conditioning, instead of keeping it at 75, do 77. |

Although it's a good idea to turn off the lights, computer, etc. when not in use, the two biggest electricity hogs in your home will be heating/air conditioning and hot water heaters.
The optimal temperature for your hot water heater is 120 F. If you have small children, set it 110.
Several years ago I moved into a house where my electric bill was way too high. I called the power company and asked them what to do. That's when I found out about the heating/air and the hot water heater. My hot water heater was set to 160 F. I turned it downed to 120. Cut the bill in half.
Energy saving appliances are a good bet too. It never hurts to call your power company and ask. |

Make sure your computer is fully shut down at night including the screen. Also use as little lights as possible. Lamps use less electricity versus over head lights. Put plastic on your windows so your house stays warmer. That helps because if the furnace has to run to heat the house and its just going out the windows then it has to work twice as much. Take shorter showers because it takes electricity to heat the water. Run the dishwasher only when it is full not half full. Dont leave the tv on if you are not watching it. If you need noise turn a radio on it takes less energy. I am including a link that shows 20 ways to save elctricity that wont cost you anything. Hope this all helps! |

unplug electronics that you're not using. i've heard that keeping the tv plugged in while it's not in use still uses a lot of electricity. |

Don't pay your electric bill. The power company will then motivate you to save LOTS of electricity. |

You should turn off the lights when you're not in the room, or when they're really not necessary. You could also unplug some appliances when they're not in use like the TV, some lights, microwave, etc... |

When you are going to bed, if you have a long plug in that you use for your tv and your radios. Plug it out, or press on the off button. It can save you a couple hundred dollers each year.
If you dont know what the plug in looks like go here:

Turn off appliances when you're not using them, only run your washing machine and dishwasher when they're full, open window shades during the day so that you need less artificial light.
Con Ed (a power company in New York) has a nice list of tips which you can find here: http://www.coned.com/thepowerofgreen/tips/001.asp |
