Live a lifestyle that reflects where you are right now. If you get all caught up in going out to eat all the time and buying the latest cell phone, you'll likely come out of college with a ton of credit card debt. Live like a broke college student- you'll look back on it one day and laugh. As much as you possibly can, take out legitimate student loans to cover your expenses, as opposed to running up your credit cards. If you are totally out of money at the end of the month, eat ramen- it's a tradition! You'll probably get better grades, too, because you won't be out partying all the time. |

Stay away from shopping and credit cards. Try to buy and re sell something for a profit be it a small margin or high. (ebay)
stash away those funds.next thing you know it will grow.
Budget and stick with it. |

Put all your change into a jar at the end of the day. Don't touch it till you remove it to put into your savings account. |

I just wanted to add something to Linda's answer. She said not to spend impulsively, and I totally agree that changing your money habits is key. That rule helped me tremendously. That would be to wait 24 hours before making any purchases.
If you work at a restaurant, sometimes the free food and drink is an added benefit.
Plan for your daily treats, don't buy from vendings and cafe. Every week buy a case of something water or soda. Or save even more buying a nice water bottle to transport you drink you made from home. If you are a coffee drinker, start making it at home.
Be creative! Go to Oprah and seek more ideas on Dept Diet 101. lol |

if you are depending you folks monthly check tell them to reduce it by 15% and put it away for you.
if you are working do the same only in reverse send them the 15%
make a budget and stick to it.
what ever you do -- do not use a credit card ever -- to easy to put a nite on the town on it.
i ate a lot of peanut butter and jelly sandwiches while working my way through college. took me 20 years to start liking them again. |

Saving money at any time in your life is hard, but the earily you start in life, the better off you'll be.
Most everyone's advice so far good, and all I really could add is don't buy impulsively.
If you're pressured to buy NOW, NOW, NOW chances are you'll regret that purchase someday.
Look for things on sale, learn to enjoy things in life that are free. (Taking walks in the park vs renting a DVD for instance.) Good luck! |
