autumnbreeze83 | What is the best way to save up money ? |
I've tried multiple times to save money and it just seems as though another bill comes up or I cannot deny temptation, any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. |

Just don't spend it! Seriously, I use to spend like crazy (when I was married), but since being on my own I have two things I do. First I ask myself "Do I need it...or just want it?" Second, if I use my credit cards, I ONLY buy this month what I can pay off next month!
The cost of living is going up all the time, but our incomes aren't. Maybe put some money in a "Christmas Account" or open a CD...better yet! Send it to me! LOL. :) |

Best way to save money, don't spend it.
Put it back and do just what you would do
if you didn't have the money. |

Automatic deductions from your regular checking into a savings account or money market fund is the only way to do it.
Basically, you open the account and throw away the key. Forget it's even there. When it gets to a certain benchmark - replant a portion in a bigger pot like income real estate. etc.
I created another channel specifically to save and invest:

Have your bank automaticly take out a percentage of ur paycheck |

1) Have your paycheck direct deposited and then have a certain amount automatically deposited into another account (a savings account) that you will not touch. You will be surpised how quickly you will be able to live on less and not realized your money is boing saved. If you cannot get direct deposit, the bank can still move the money for you.
2) Keep a diary of every penny you spend and then sit down at the end of the month and see where you can cut down - things like eating out for lunch or buying Starbucks can add up
3) If where you work has a 401k program, join it IMMEDIATELY - forced savings.
4) Take 10% of each pay and put it in another account and DO NOT TOUCH IT.
5) Everyday, keep all your change and put it in a drawer or bowl - you would be surpised how that adds up |

Thre is no way, except WILL POWER. If you haven't got will power, you will NOT be able to save any money. |

One way....stay so busy with work and other activities that you don't have time to shop.
Two....Save all of your spare change, never pay with change and save every coin in a jar, it sounds really silly but I did it for 6 months and had $250 dollars, it was like free money.
Three....put small amounts of money into a seperate account, $5, 10, 25...having a seperate account just for savings makes it easier to leave it alone when temptation comes up.
Four...Cut out all of the little things you buy 'just because' don't go to Starbucks when you have coffee at home, but things on sale, etc....
Good luck! |

put it in a big plastic jar cut a hole big enough to put coins through and crazy glue the lid, that way you can't get at it. |

As a person who is on a limited income (Social Security), I have found the best way for me to save a little money for a night out at the movies, a dinner out once-in-a-while, a birthday gift for my grandchildren, etc., is to save my change.
When I pay for an item with cash, I save the change at the end of the day. I have four little baskets; one for pennies, nickles, dimes, and quarters. I never touch the change in these baskets to pay for anything. When I get enough pennies, nickles, dimes, or quarters to make a "roll", I roll them and "stash" away in a drawer. In the past six months, I have saved almost $300.
Once you begin saving even small amounts, your savings will add up. You will become very protective of your money, wanting to add even more. This may encourage you to deny temptation when you see something you want, but don't really need.
Don't put this money in the bank; you will only end up spending it. Even in a Savings Account, the temptation to withdraw a little here and a little there will be overwhelming, and you will soon have depleted your money.
What am I going to do with my $300? I'm not sure, maybe nothing; but, it is mine to do nothing with, and I have the satisfaction of knowing that $300 is there! |

Something I did was I opened a checking and a savings account at a bank not very close to my home. I then set up transfers to come out of my checking account when my direct deposit hit my accounts. This way money is going into my savings account and it is inconvenient for me to go the bank to take the money out so I end up keeping it in my savings. You should make sure you only have access to your checking, if you really want to save do not link your check card to your savings. This way you can't be tempted to visit an ATM. Also if you end up needing money from your savings you'll have time to think it over on your way to the bank.
Another idea may be a short term CD, that way your money is only locked up for a short while, giving you an opportunity at the end of the term to withdraw any $ without paying penalties if you are in need. |
