What is the best way to throw away blank checks?
if i do not have a shredder and i wantvto throw out several boxes of blank checks that have my current account on the check. can i just cut out the account number and throw out the rest?

Sgt Big Red
Take large marker and write "VOID" on the checks, then cover over the routing and account number at the bottom of the checks then simply tear em up.

This way if some idiot did want to spend the time to piece them back together, the "VOID" would make it still unusable.

Or you can do just as you asked, cut out the account numbers and throw out the rest. No one will accept a check thats been altered or taped together. Just remember to discard the numbers in a seperate trach bag or just cut em up (less work and less paper mess)

It's amazing how many people first off suggest getting a shredder when you state at he begining you dont have one, some just dont read the whole question!

G N A
Return them to your bank and ask them to shred them for you. Most US banks use a service that shreds their data daily.

panek025
Get a shredder, you can get one for 20 bucks. Trust me you will need it again.

malosp
Cut them up into little pieces and throw them away.

I would cut them all up if you don't have a shredder. Or return them to the bank, they will take them and dispose of them for you. Hope this helps.

Just buy a shredder. And if you really don't want to, rip it up a ton of times until you can't see anything.

hilary duff
thats pretty time consuming, go to a business with a shredder and use it

NO! people are clever these days. they can peice things back together easily!! if you don't have a shredder, then take them to your bank and watch them destroy them (shred)...make sure you watch them because they are some of the biggest crooks waiting for an opportunity. or you could just burn them. good luck.
