Bank of America does suck... I have accounts at Wachovia and Commerce. If there's a Commerce in your area, check it out. Open 7 days a week till 7 or 8 and they're services are pretty decent. |

I honestly think all banks have their pro's and con's. I have been with chase and sometimes they make me wanna scream but I always find an ATM when I need one and they are so quick too. Chase has a lot of good features but they will also charge you an overdraft fee even if you were short $1.00, so you end up paying $30.00 for being short $1.00, which is ridiculous but hey you can't have it all...can you? |

I like WACHOVIA bank, but if you overdraft there is no way you can actually have them remove the fee or waive it, you need to pay it and thats if you withdraw for even 1 cent, but other than that great customer service and good bank |

Bank One...formerly known in Michigan as NBD (someone coined it before me as...Nothing But Difficulties) and it doesn't seemed to have changed after the merger with Bank One.
They constantly screwed up with auto deposit, and would transfer funds into a secondary account without authorization, and then bounce my checks and I would have to take time to go down and show them their errors, often having to bring in my own records of where the auto deposit is designated and started the fiasco of check bouncing and UGH>..headache. I'm with National City and I have no problems EVER now. Very nice people too! |

I don't know which is the best yet because I haven't found it but I like the credit union I switched to last year. I used to bank at TCF but they too were overdraft charge happy. However, even while I didn't have an overdraft of any kind I took $5 out of my savings account (I had cash on me and just needed a little extra to go to lunch with a friend)- I had forgotten that I took the $5 out which dipped my savings account below $100 to $97 [I had $102 in my account]. I noticed around the same time that I had been double charged for an overdraft fee but could not get them to understand that... even when I ran through the numbers with one of the bank representatives. A couple months went by and a bunch of overdraft charges came in that I couldn't see why I was getting so I came to the conclusion that I should get out of there so I went to close out my checking and savings accounts and they had charged my savings account out of existence!!! They changed the policy after I joined and with a checking account they wanted you to have a savings account with a minimum of $100. So they charged me for being below the limit and took the entire $97 and never even bothered to let me know they were doing this! I also found out why checks were bouncing all over the place all of a sudden... they changed another policy after I joined and DID have small computer printed signs that were NOT very noticeable in the tinted window at the drive through (you could barley see the doggone thing-esp. with the sun reflecting off the glass)- the sign stated that any deposits made after 2:00pm would NOT be processed until the following day! So the money from my payroll check wasn't available to me when I deposited it- so if I went grocery shopping that day after depositing my check at 3:15pm..... and.... if the store used the same bank and had the electronic transfer system (which they did) any check I wrote the same day I deposited my pay check would bounce because THAT they would process right away. Clever trick. :(
If I were you, I'd check out a credit union. They're more like how banks USED to be and your money IS federally insured.

I think most banks take fees. last month a check was sent out on time and the party did not get it, so I had to put a stop payment and it cost me 35 dollars that I could of used for something else. I use suntrust bank, the people are nice but the fees are awful. don't ever use netbank.com they are as bank on line and they are the second worse bank |

Yeah I had BoA for a while, then they would not let me make a deposit (believe it or not-they wouldn't let me make a deposit into my own account) so I could not write checks, could not buy food for my children get gas for my car, and one of my automatic payments bounced for NSF. I had to argue and agrue with a customes service manager at some 1-800 number. Their downfall was that the desk agent did the transaction and gave me a receipt for it, then she asked a question of someone else about the check I had and they told her she couldn't do what she did(by the way they had been taking this very same type deposit for months prior to this day) so the second person reversed the transaction, and since the first desk agent already stamped the back of the check it was useless to me as no other bank would take it cause they would say it had already been cashed. But when I provided a copy to the customer service manager at the 1-800, he had no choice but say they were wrong and reinstate the transaction. He was also at a loss as to why the second agent said they couldn't take the deposit, and was told that I was being sent a letter for me to take to the branch manager if this should happen again. I said screw it and went to see the branch manager for the next deposit and he started to tell me that they could not accept the deposit, but not why they couldn't. So I showed him my letter from the cust. service manager and I got to make my deposit. I said screw it the next week when I was told I couldn't make the deposit. I went to visit the branch manager again, while on the phone to the cust. serv. manager at the 1-800 number and proceeded to close out my account. |

I had horrible experiences with US Bank - they changed their policies and put them into effect a week before the date they specified in letters sent to their customers, which caused me to receive overdraft fees. I had to go to the bank and show them the problem, but they fixed it and refunded me about $150 in fees. However, two years later, I had moved to a new state, and due to bank error received a fee. I was told I would have to go to the original branch to fix it - the lady was kind enough to tell me she would love to fix it for me, but it was unethical and would be like stealing from the branch I opened my account with. And the original branch informed me I had to come in person to fix the problem - they are a 16 hour drive away. So, I'm now with a small, local bank who has incredible customer service.
Also, MBNA issued a credit card in my name to my stepfather, and I have been fighting them for years to dismiss this card as fraud, but they refused. Now I'm just waiting for the seven years to be up so it will drop from my record. |
