Put it in a savings account, that you cannot withdraw from using a debit card.
So you will not be tempted to spend it, thats what I do. |

The easiest way to save money is to not spend it. You need to not spend and put it in an account that gives you interest, some banks have way low interest rates, the higher you can find the better, good ones at this time in the economy are high 3% and low 4%, I recommend ING Direct but you need a checking account before you can get a savings account there because it is only online, there are not any physical ING Banks that you can go to. |

Have your employer withhold some from each payday and go into an IRA or Mutual fund (Not Savings Bonds or Savings account, they don't pay much.)
You never see that money so you won't be tempted to spend. Also it adds up very quickly because your money is working for you, making more money. Just ignore how much is in there for several years, then you get a very nice surprise when you do check it. |

The easiest way is to not see the money at all.
So organise with your payroll department for a portion of your pay to be put into an account that you cannot access directly.
Or if your payroll cant do it, organise your bank account to put an amount every payday, into an account that you cannot draw upon without a weeks notice. All banks have them.
Whatever you think you can afford, then add another quarter of that onto it...because you will underestimate. |

If your employer has the option of having your paycheck directly deposited to your account, you can split the deposits to 3 different banks/accounts. I have my employer directly deposit $50 a week to a Savings Account that I have easy access to, $50 a week to a Savings Account that is 10 miles away from me and I have to go to the bank if I want to withdraw the money (no ATM), and the remainder is deposited to my checking account to pay my bills. I don't even miss the money if I don't see it, and it adds up fast ($200 a month). So ask your employer if you can have your check directly deposited (it takes very little paper work for you to fill out the forms, and once it starts, you just sit back and they do all the work for you. Also, you can just have a portion of your pay check deposited, and the other portion made out in check form for you to take to the bank. My employer is a big company and that is one very good benefit. It saves me from having to go to the bank (gas mileage and time). I just write checks to pay my bills. Happy savings!!! |

Start with an amount each week that is small like $5-$10 per paycheck, check with your bank to see if they have a "club account" it's a savings account that's seperate from your normal savings it is still liquid in case of an emergency, but you can't use your atm to get to it. put the money in there and don't touch it. This is called pay yourself first.
After this look around to see where you can save money on clothes, and gas and food. Those are the three places that it is usually easiest to reduce. |

You have to start thinking S-M-A-R-T. What kind of cutbacks can you make? For example: I drink bottled water. Now at $1 a bottle on something that covers over 65% of our planet is not smart. So I bought one of those water filters that screw into your faucet. I have bottles that I refil over and over again. I take them to work. Do you have a lot of small appliances around that house that are always on? I cut my electronic bill almost in half by unplugging all the clock radios and night lights. I also bought some of those florescent bulbs that look a lot like a regular bulb. These things use 80% less electricity than regular bulbs. You would be surprised, but these small things add up. I know I was spending money on the water filter and energy efficient bulbs but these things will pay for themselves in a month providing they pertain to you. If you really need the money right away start cutting back on your food costs. Romain noodles cost a dime and they taste just as good as campbells chicken noodle that costs $130 a can. Ok no chicken in romain noodles, but you are probably just missing about 4 tiny pieces of chicken. .Before you know it you will be ahead. And remember you have to start thinking S-M-A-R-T! |

Its too easy to say "don't spend it". That's what money is for. There are lots of ways to save no matter how much you make.
If you keep a percent of your income into some kind of savings account and don't touch it, you will be surprised how fast it grows. This will encourage you want to save more. |

Cast your vote against B. Hussein Obama and you're save a bundle on taxes.
Also, don't buy dumb music, or go to dumb concerts and sporting events. You can spend your time developing some sort of small venture on your own, such as an eBay business, or whatever. |
