I am a lawyer, I went to Harvard Law School
Personally I think you have to have "gut" to be a lawyer because you can ruin somebody's financial life in as much time as snapping your fingers. It varies year to year because of cases but my lowest to highest was $350K-$800K a year. |

Salary isn't the best way to decide what you want to be when you grow up-- all the "stuff" in the world won't make up for doing something you love to do. Find out what people like and dislike about their fields and get as much experience as you can in your areas of interest to find out what will be best for you.
I am a student in medical school and right now I am making somewhere around NEGATIVE $60,000/yr. It's worth it, though, even if I end up as a doctor in a small town where I won't make a lot of money or get my loans paid off very soon, because I know that it's the thing I'm most passionate about. |

I am a 2nd year 7th grade math teacher for a rural school district and I make 33,000 a year. Let me add, I have 6 hour days, love the kids, get all holidays off, 3 mos off in the summer, 2 week Winter Break, about 5-6 days off for Thanksgiving, and 1 week for Spring Break. While everyone else works until 5pm or 6pm I get off work at 2:45pm. And then my summers are mine to play or work. In my case I work another job at Home Depot and earn some extra money during summer on top of my school paycheck. I'd be bored it I stayed home. It's GREAT! |

I'm in sales for a marketing firm and I do fine for myself.....
I wouldn't let money be the driving factor in what you want to do in life. For example, lawyers probably make more money than I do, but I wouldn't want to be in that profession at all.
The thing I learned in college/right after is this:
Decide what interests you the most in college and follow that to be your major. If you can, get an internship your junior/senior year.
When you get out of college, be able to balance fun with a steady workload. Find a job and work hard at it -- don't waste any opprotunities.
If you work hard and prove yourself, it will go noticed and by the time your in your early 30s, it will have paid out for you though promotions and raises.
There's tons of different careers out there where there's potential to make great money. You just have to be willing to work hard and pay your dues. |
