Well, you can search ebay for cars that are $650, I buy cheap cars all the time.
You want to see see how much tax/title/registration/liability insurance are going to cost too, it might be another $600 to get it legal to drive, and some cars will cost more to insure than others (for your budget, you want liability only as required by your state).
I like the old saturns with a stick shift, they seem a pretty good bargain and can be coaxed to get better than 50mpg in the right hands. |

You might be able to put a down payment on a fairly decent used car with your $650, if you can get someone to finance it for you. |

lots of bus passes. Might as well, any car for that price (if not a family sweetheart deal) is going to suck ***. |

You won't get much of one for that. It will probably cost you a lot more over the next few years in repairs and maintenance. You really would be better off waiting until you have more saved up or can finance a better one with the $650 as a down payment. |

Something that won't be too reliable. I would wait until you have about 2 grand. Which means get a part-time job or something so that you can keep on saving. Otherwise, for 650, you'll get something really old or beat up. Like I said try to get a used Honda or something reliable. There are many cars that are used and very reliable but make sure when you buy from the individual that they have all the maintenance history saved up or don't bother. By the way, Toyota is also very reliable cars. :) |

A older model car briefly handed down by family, pretty good motor, no a/c or is power automatic probably manual. A pretty good car physical and internal features will be plastic. 4 door is good for college. If your talking about getting a good car try looking at maybe $4,000+ range. If your lucky you might find a car for $650. |

Twilight,
I am a mother of 3 teenage sons. First of all any car that costs 650.00 is very old and probably is ready for expensive repairs.
Insurance for an 18 year old is very expensive unless your parents add you to there policy (they will also receive a large increase in there policy to add you on.
So to purchase a 650 dollar car you need probably 1-2 thousand for repairs, 5-6 hundred for insurance. and you need money for gas.
Unless you have family help or a really good job you're not ready yet.
Sorry. |

Some people have already said what I agree with and that's to use it for a downpayment on a car. Depending on your credit, and how much you can afford for a monthly car payment and insurance, you can either get a really nice car or something a little less. I would at least get something in the $1800-$2000 range if you are still a student. Yeah you will have payments, insurance, etc...but it should be low and you'll have many more cars to choose from and probably less money spent on repairs. If you insist on using only the $650 then you will certainly get $650 worth of metal, that much is guaranteed. |
