Scriptures dictates that no matter how much materially one is enriched, if that person does not make a self inquiry , then that life is simply a waste of time. As he has to again come back to this material world and accept another form of body to enjoy the good Krama and to suffer the bad Karma. This cycle continues again and again, there is no easy way out without a proper consciousness.
Lord krishna says in BG (2.44)
bhogaisvarya-prasaktanam
tayapahrta-cetasam
vyavasayatmika buddhih
samadhau na vidhiyate
"In the minds of those who are too attached to sense enjoyment and material opulence, and who are bewildered by such things, the resolute determination of devotional service to the Supreme Lord does not take place. "
So, here we find an answer why generally people are not inclined towards the transcendental message of The Lord.

Ammm... none? But you must not assume that all are alike (meaning we all don't know ourselves). Lots of people have found internal peace/calm/lalalala and want paper goods and monies. Some come from poor familes and money would be a security blanket from which they may expand their knowledge of the world and from which they may feel happy and learn more about themselves.
Don't know. Haven't met one person (I work with rich people in the Puget Sound Area where we have 7 of the richest zip codes out of 20 in the USA) who is rich and depressed or unhappy or lost looking. Wonder why...? |

Those people only gain material "things" and never anything else and those things, he leaves them behind when he dies. So what's the use to gather on earth if his soul has never found the way? he may not loose it eternally, which I don't know, but he won't find eternal peace; actually never even on earth. The only thing that matters on earth is our spirit, our soul.

When you fully realize who you are, I believe material gains will be of no real need.
